About The Position

The Associate General Counsel – Employment and Labor Law will report to the Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, serving as a trusted advisor on employment and labor law matters for the organization. This role provides counsel on legal compliance, workplace investigations, organization policies, labor law and labor relations, including union organizing, collective bargaining, and contract administration, representation before administrative agencies, and defense of legal actions. Expertise in federal and state employment and labor laws and regulations, including discrimination and harassment, disability, leaves of absence, wage and hour laws and regulations, the National Labor Relations Act, and experience with employment litigation is required. The position is ideal for experienced attorneys who have proven success independently managing complex and confidential legal issues, who can collaborate effectively with a diverse management team, and who can provide guidance in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This is a hybrid role. On days when onsite activity is not required, individuals in this role may work remotely. All new hires are required to come to a designated Legacy Health office location in Portland, Oregon prior to their start date for a new hire health assessment and to complete new employee orientation.

Requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited law school with demonstrated achievement.
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience.
  • Ability to work independently and with diverse groups of management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Licensed to practice law in the applicable state. Membership in the State Bar of Oregon or eligibility for admission based on reciprocity is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice, counsel, and representation of Legacy Health to ensure conformity with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage all areas of legal compliance; litigation; contract negotiation and preparation, review, and development; and/or other areas as assigned by the Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer.
  • Deal with highly confidential matters and unique or complex legal issues.
  • Exercise a high degree of independent judgment, set objectives with guidance from the Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and decide how to proceed to resolve difficult problems while following Legacy and Legal Services policies.
