About The Position

The Associate General Counsel (Real Estate) is a member of the legal team who reports to the Deputy General Counsel, VP (Real Estate) and supports the company’s real estate activities and operations, such as acquisitions / dispositions, leasing, zoning and land use, real estate finance, tax incentives, and development incentives. This position maintains compliance with relevant contract policies and procedures and provides direct support to the company’s acquisition and development team and business units.

Requirements

J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials.
Six or more years of experience as a lawyer working in the areas of contract negotiation, real estate, lease negotiation, and/or corporate law
Hands-on, self-starter who is disciplined and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting that requires a highly accurate and timely work product
Excellent listening, written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to learn ERP systems
Excels in a team-oriented work environment
Strong work ethic and accountability to deadlines
Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving business environment
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), Box and DocuSign
Excellent analytical, time-management, judgment and decision-making skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Possess ambition and an optimistic attitude

Responsibilities

Responsibility for managing and overseeing certain aspects of the company’s real estate activities/development, operations, and transactions.
Leading the negotiation and drafting of various legal documents and agreements, including those pertaining to real estate purchase/sale agreements, financing, leasing, tax incentives, title review and insurance, zoning and land use, easements and restrictive covenants, and management of multiple deals and deal flow.
Working closely with internal development and due diligence teams and managing outside counsel, counterparties, insurers, and other third parties.
Responsibility for various non-real estate legal and general business matters
Responsibility for various commercial law matters
Assist with a variety of business-related functions and provide sound legal and business judgment on matters including loans, equity raises, joint ventures, acquisitions, construction, reporting and compliance, tax abatements litigation, etc.
