About The Position

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join Verkada’s growing legal team as its lead global employment counsel. You will report directly to the General Counsel and work hand–in–hand with company leadership as a trusted legal advisor on a wide variety of employment law matters across the company. You will also lead and help build a team of global employment lawyers to support the company’s expanding workforce. We have an 'in office' approach to work, and this role is intended to be based in our headquarters in San Mateo, CA.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school
  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience (preferably with at least 2 years of in-house counsel experience at a technology company)
  • Deep expertise in U.S. employment law, especially California and federal, with familiarity across other states
  • Strong familiarity with employment law outside the U.S., primarily in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region
  • Broad experience leading, conducting, and directing employment litigation, adversarial proceedings, and as employment-related internal investigations
  • Member of a U.S. state bar in good standing (California preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead Verkada’s employment legal function
  • Advise leadership and the People Team on a wide range of employment law issues, such as employee relations, performance management, leaves, accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, terminations, and recruiting
  • Partner with Verkada’s People Team to build scalable employment practices and policies at a fast but thoughtful pace
  • Develop, draft, update, and implement employment and other workforce-related policies
  • Lead resolution of employment related disputes and litigation (including managing outside counsel cost-effectively)
  • Lead or support employment-related investigations
  • Develop and conduct company-wide employment training programs and compliance initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on complex projects with employment law implications across multiple jurisdictions
  • Advise company leadership and stakeholders on appropriate employment classifications and drive efforts to comply with applicable laws and regulations
  • Monitor the legal landscape of global employment laws and regulations and advise company leadership accordingly
