About The Position

The University of Kansas is seeking a tenured Associate or Full Professor in Exercise Science to serve as the Director of the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory (JAPL). This role involves leading research initiatives, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and overseeing the laboratory's operations. The successful candidate will engage in scientific inquiry to enhance athletic performance and collaborate with various stakeholders, including KU Athletics and international sports organizations.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • Established record of teaching excellence in Exercise Science commensurate with an associate professor with tenure.
  • Demonstrated research success through publications, awards, and research grants.
  • Evidence of ability to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with international sports organizations and collaborations with academic institutions.
  • Familiarity with funding agencies and grant writing.

Responsibilities

  • Continue a focused line of research inquiry in exercise physiology, sport science, and human performance while directing the research mission of the JAPL.
  • Demonstrate sustained productivity through publications, grants, and presentations at national and international levels.
  • Seek external funding to support research activities and develop collaborative relationships with faculty and research centers.
  • Direct student research projects, theses, and dissertations.
  • Teach six credit hours per semester in the Exercise Science program, including face-to-face or hybrid courses.
  • Serve as the Director of the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, overseeing staff, research assistants, and the budget.
  • Contribute to the service mission of the HSES Department and the University of Kansas.
