About The Position

POSITION PURPOSE Provide entry‑level engineering support for facility and equipment improvement projects across operating, maintenance, and support departments. This role is designed to develop foundational engineering and project coordination skills while working under the direction of senior Facilities Engineers and the Facilities Engineering Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Engineering & Design Support Become familiar with facility equipment, components, and systems through hands‑on exposure and training. Assist with basic facility and equipment design tasks using 2D and 3D CAD software. Prepare, revise, and maintain engineering drawings and documentation. Support engineering change documentation and drawing management systems. Project Support & Coordination Support senior engineers on capital and expense projects by assisting with: Data gathering and preliminary scope development Cost estimates and schedule updates Project documentation and status tracking Participate in project meetings as a contributing team member. Track action items, schedules, and documentation under supervision. Assist with preparing purchase requisitions and coordinating with Purchasing as directed. Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Installation & Implementation Assistance Support equipment installation and facility modification activities. Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and contractors during installation and startup activities under guidance. Assist with post‑installation documentation, drawings, and close‑out activities. Manufacturing & Facility Support Participate in problem‑solving teams addressing equipment, facility, and operational issues. Assist with data collection, basic root cause analysis, and improvement recommendations. Learn and apply safety, environmental, and operational standards within a manufacturing environment. Professional Development Develop foundational project management skills, including scheduling, documentation control, and communication. Build technical knowledge of heavy manufacturing and facility systems. Learn company engineering standards, safety expectations, and compliance requirements. QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Experience and Competencies Education Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Experience Required: 0–2 years of engineering experience(Internship, co‑op, or applicable academic project experience acceptable) Preferred: Internship or co‑op experience in manufacturing, facilities, or industrial environments SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES / DIRECT REPORTS No direct reports. Does not independently supervise contractors or external engineers. Works under the direction of senior engineering staff and management. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment. Regular exposure to industrial equipment and operating areas. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, wear required PPE, and access elevated areas as needed. POSITION TYPE – WORK HOURS - TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Position is full time, exempt Travel up to 25% of time in the field or at other SSAB locations, though majority of time in Montpelier facility. OTHER DUTIES Update information in the drawing and manual systems to record and track all changes made and keep them up to date. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field
  • 0–2 years of engineering experience(Internship, co‑op, or applicable academic project experience acceptable)
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, wear required PPE, and access elevated areas as needed.
