About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Associate Executive Director oversees staff development, innovation, risk management, positive member experience and achieving budget targets. This position is accountable for the successful operation of the YMCA Program development and implementation. The Associate Executive Director is a key member of branch leadership guided by YMCA operating principles and association leadership norms that must operate in a manner consistent with our organizational values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in a similar role is required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Microsoft Office experience and ability to quickly learn other software programs is required.

  • YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and model collaborative relationships with community agencies, local partners, and stakeholders to strengthen the Y brand, increase visibility, and support community impact.
  • Direct branch program marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefits to the community and inform members and participants.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including the Annual Campaign and community events, by building donor relationships, securing contributions, and engaging staff and volunteers in support of the Y’s mission.
  • Foster a climate of inclusion and continuous improvement, ensuring high-quality, engaging, and accessible program experiences that drive retention and support membership and program growth.
  • Develop and lead relationship-based member relation strategies and model strong relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, members, volunteers, and the community.
  • Provide strong recruitment, development, performance management, and succession planning processes to ensure the hiring, professional development, motivation, and retention of high-quality staff.
  • Provide input into branch strategic planning efforts and drive the development and execution of the annual operating plan in alignment with association goals and priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with association leadership to establish and achieve operational and performance goals for assigned staff that align with long-term strategies of the association.
  • Facilitate the development of the annual budget and oversee the management, monitoring, and adjustment of assigned operating budgets to meet or exceed financial targets, ensuring a balanced operation and accurate monthly reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of programs and industry trends; regularly monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and participation. Implement corrective strategies as needed.
  • Maintain adherence to all YMCA policies and financial practices, oversee staff-related standards, and lead the implementation of the association’s risk management program to maintain safe facilities, programs, and operations.
  • Ensure required staff certifications are maintained and that emergency preparedness procedures are in place, regularly practiced, and consistently followed.
  • Address gaps in safety, maintenance, and overall quality of facilities, grounds, and equipment to ensure a welcoming and well-maintained environment.
  • Support association-wide initiatives and actively participate in leadership meetings, committees, and collaborative efforts as assigned.
  • Complete all required compliance and professional development training annually or as assigned.
  • Support overall branch operations by performing other duties as assigned.
