About The Position

Environmental Services Associate Department: Environmental Services (EVS) Shift: 1st Shift Schedule: Weekends and holidays required Overview The Environmental Services Associate supports a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and team members. This role performs cleaning, sanitation, and infection prevention services across patient care, clinical, procedural, and public areas in accordance with IU Health standards, infection control practices, and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gowns, gloves, goggles, and rubber‑soled closed‑toe footwear.
  • Ability to reach, stand for extended periods, bend, squat, and lift or carry supplies and equipment weighing 35 pounds or more, up to 80% of the workday.
  • Ability to operate light cleaning equipment and work in high‑acuity clinical environments.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • No previous environmental services experience required; training is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and discharge cleaning of patient rooms, offices, clinics, clinical and procedural areas, and public spaces.
  • Applies approved cleaning and disinfection protocols in alignment with infection control standards and hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to clean and disinfect high‑acuity and technical care areas.
  • Safely handles and removes hazardous and biohazardous waste in compliance with safety regulations and infection prevention protocols.
  • Operates light floor‑care equipment to clean and maintain floors in patient care areas.
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with clinical teams to ensure cleaning services support patient safety, care flow, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards while performing all duties.
  • Cleans specialized clinical and procedural areas, including: Interventional Radiology (IR) Cardiac Catheterization Lab Mother‑Baby Units Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Operating Room (OR) Emergency Department (ED)
  • Climbs ladders as required to complete assigned cleaning tasks.
