About The Position

Puget Sound Energy’s Gas System Design & Drafting group is looking for an Associate Engineering Specialist to join our team. This posting aligns with the “CAD Design and Drafting” track of the specialist role. The specialist, under direct supervision of more experienced staff, develops and designs natural gas distribution drawings (intermediate pressure) utilized for permitting, operations and maintenance of the natural gas energy delivery system. Participates on project teams to complete drawings in support of Pipe Replacement and Distribution Integrity Management Programs (PRP & DIMP) through the application of standard engineering practices and principles. Duties may include assisting engineering teams with data and records management, and research. Assignments are broad in scope and may be composed of many interrelated elements requiring interpretation of project guidelines and adaptation of standard practices. Contributes to the development of design and drafting policies, standards and procedures that are in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Supports emergency response operations when needed. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety. Demonstrates commitment to conduct business honestly, ethically and consistent with our core values and Code of Conduct. Ensures duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent technical certificate in design or pre-engineering, or 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with PC software.

  • Utility operations experience, knowledge of subject matter within assigned area of focus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various engineering tasks using applications and tools specific to job assignment and discipline.
  • Assists in the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, and standards.
  • Assists in the preparation of engineering studies to support specific program objectives.
  • Conducts and documents research for system compliance requirements.
  • Assists in the preparation of project cost estimates.
  • Creates and updates job work orders and project documentation including tasks and calculations.
  • Conducts office and field research, measurement and verification of equipment data, and creates and updates equipment records.
  • Reviews engineering and records documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Performs Data and records management.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Assists others in making updates to department standards, processes, and tools.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
