About The Position

The Engineer will participate in the long term planning process across Ameren Missouri. The engineer will perform system studies in the tactical and strategic planning windows to identify opportunities for system investments to improve distribution capacity and reliability. Collaboratively develop projects from initial justification through project approval for optimum electric distribution system development (primarily the 4 and 12kV, circuits and terminal equipment), and provide various technical support for Field Engineering workgroups as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university required, preferably in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in power. Other engineering degrees will be considered if the applicant has five or more years of experience working in the electric utility industry.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer applications including the Microsoft suite of applications.
  • Working knowledge of corporate computer applications (Oracle portfolio management, ADMS) and Synergi.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, communication, and human relations skills.
  • Must have initiative, a strong sense of ownership, and pride in their areas of responsibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration preferred.
  • Experience in power system analysis, field engineering, or related fields referred.
  • An ideal candidate will have the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders to reach consensus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power flow and reliability studies for the Ameren power delivery and electric distribution system.
  • Identify system performance that does not meet planning criteria and develop solutions to bring the system back to a state of compliance
  • Develop conceptual design for new facilities, collaborate with Field Engineering and other workgroups to reach consensus, and issue scoping documents to initiate project implementation.
  • Responsible for the Load Analysis long term load forecasting process.
  • Prepare and present engineering reports to adjacent teams and key stakeholders.
  • Follow and understand planning criteria and guidelines.
  • Evaluate system load additions.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in power systems analysis utilizing Synergi and other tools.
  • Use computer modeling techniques and engineering expertise to assess electric distribution system adequacy and to identify the optimum size, configuration, and timing of changes to facilities.
  • Perform special studies and participate in research as needed.
  • Collaborate with Field Engineering and other departments, functions, and companies in joint studies and/or provide technical support.
  • Establishes, communicates, and reinforces expectations for superior personnel safety performance.
  • Provide support to operating groups in responding to specific contingency conditions, including the impact of planned facility outages.
  • Support the Operations personnel and participate in call-outs for storm restoration.
