Job Description Be a core member of the team that develops and evaluates joining, assembly technologies, and materials for Andersen’s extensive portfolio of products. Corner joints are present in every window and door that Andersen sells and are critical to a product’s performance, function, and aesthetics. The Corner Joining Team’s work is critical to ensure we utilize the best materials and processes to create corner joints that deliver long-term unit performance. Projects may involve enhancing existing materials and processes, improving quality, reducing cost, reducing waste, stabilizing supply chains, and/or investigating, developing, and commercializing new material, equipment, and process technologies.

Requirements

  • BS Chemical, Mechanical, Materials Science, or similar Engineering degree
  • 0-2 years of engineering experience
  • Experience working with collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Experience working on chemical processes, materials technologies, or materials testing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with strong intellectual curiosity
  • Tolerance for ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to be hands on
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel, Minitab, or similar software
  • Typical travel requirements: 10%

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an engineer in the Corner Joining Team.
  • Lead and manage scoped projects through phase-gate project management tools (e.g., T-Gate).
  • Use a science-based approach to solve complex technical problems with practical solutions.
  • Understand different joining techniques, their performance, applicability to different materials, and how they interact with Andersen’s product portfolio.
  • Grow and become a technical expert in corner joining technologies, methods, and materials through on-the-job experience, mentorship, and training.
  • Understand and be proficient in the methodologies for the evaluation and performance of joints, assemblies, and materials.
  • Design and develop processes that balance material, design, and manufacturing success criteria.
  • Collaborate with design teams in selecting corner joint types for new products and/or modifying current products by balancing product performance and function with cost and manufacturability by obtaining data and other information.
  • Support operations and manufacturing partners in understanding product requirements, quality checks, and machine settings to enable the improvement of processes and equipment.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external customers by acting as the voice of the Corner Joining team. This includes voicing concerns or articulating risks associated with projects based on test results.
  • Provide technical support for materials, equipment, and process related questions, to a wide variety of groups both internally and externally to Andersen Corporation.
  • Create standards and specifications to document material performance requirements.
