The position is part of the FinOps (Cloud Cost Management) Team within the Cloud and Engineering Platform team at American Airlines. The role focuses on analyzing, optimizing, and implementing cost optimization actions for various cloud services, while also managing relationships with stakeholders and supporting budget processes. The candidate will work with cutting-edge cloud solutions and be involved in technical solutions that support FinOps and cloud operations.

  • Analyze, optimize, and implement cost optimization actions over different cloud services
  • Implement and manage automated tools to help identify cost trends and anomalies
  • Build automation that optimizes the cloud environments to enhance cloud performance
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, including engineers, executives, product managers, and finance teams
  • Work with cloud vendors as needed
  • Support budget processes by performing cost analysis deep-dives and creating custom reports
  • Work on technical solutions to support FinOps and Cloud operations
  • Advise on cost-effective architectures
  • Manage technology proof of concept selection criteria, evaluation, and testing
  • Explore and stay abreast of new technologies that can bring value to the organization
  • Encourage an environment of sharing and teamwork among project teams
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering/Technology, or Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance
  • 3+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, FinOps, or Vendor Client Success Management
  • Solid understanding of Azure Cloud budget process, including formulating budget base and creating budget templates
  • 3+ years experience with Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience in an Agile environment using Scrum methodology
  • Experience with chargeback modeling, cost savings and avoidance tracking, and forecasting
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
  • Ability to work on multiple activities simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge
