Requirements

  • Three (3) years of verifiable professional engineering experience.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience equivalent to the City & County of San Francisco Class 5203 Assistant Engineer or higher.
  • Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Electrical Engineering.

  • Candidates licensed in other states who meet the minimum requirements may file for this examination.
  • Experience in supervising engineering projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional engineering work in the field and office.
  • Supervise the work of junior and assistant engineers, technicians, inspectors, surveyors and other related personnel.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare cost and quantity estimates for necessary labor, materials and equipment.
  • Provide engineering support to operations staff.
  • Review existing conditions and conduct studies of processes.
  • Analyze and resolve problems to ensure compliance with regulatory and performance standards.
  • Supervise the preparation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications and calculations.
  • Assign and review the work of subordinate staff and consultants.
  • Determine resources necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Review plans, permit applications and specifications developed by staff, consultants and contractors.
  • Verify quantities, dimensions, safety requirements, and quality of work for engineering projects.
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of technical engineering reports and other documentation.
  • Interview, select, train, monitor, evaluate and counsel staff.
  • Prepare a variety of bid documents and review and analyze bids.
  • Conduct meetings and make presentations.
