About The Position

The Editorial team is part of College Board’s Assessment Design and Development (AD&D) department. We are a collaborative team committed to producing SAT Suite test questions and related publications that are error-free, consistent in style, and aligned to established editorial standards. We also edit materials and ensure quality control for other College Board programs, such as AP and ACCUPLACER. We work closely with Math and Reading and Writing subject matter experts within AD&D and other teams across College Board to publish tests and related materials in a variety of formats, both digital and print. As a team, we are in a period of intentional growth and evolution. We are actively refining our processes, strengthening cross-functional partnerships, and identifying new ways to improve how we work. As an Associate Editor, you will play an important role in ensuring the quality, clarity, accuracy, and consistency of assessments and publications for the SAT Suite and other College Board programs. You will apply College Board’s style guidelines and industry standards to support consistent, error-free, and student-centered content. In partnership with test developers, subject matter experts, and cross-functional stakeholders, you will incorporate feedback thoughtfully and take ownership of the editorial integrity of assigned materials, acting as an expert on all editorial matters. You will also contribute to collaborative team practices, support process improvements, and leverage evolving tools and technologies to strengthen editorial workflows, helping to deliver high-quality assessments across digital and print platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field
  • 4 or more years of copyediting, proofreading, and fact checking experience, preferably in educational publishing, assessment, or technical content
  • Strong attention to detail and command of grammar, usage, punctuation, and syntax, with knowledge of general publishing and publications standards and practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and demonstrated ability to apply various styles appropriately and consistently
  • Experience editing and working in a variety of content management systems, technical platforms, and software (Smartsheet, Adobe, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to give and receive constructive feedback and explain editorial decisions clearly and professionally
  • Strong organizational and version control skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to manage work autonomously and escalate issues effectively while understanding how individual contributions impact broader team objectives and workflows
  • Ability to travel 1–3 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business

Responsibilities

  • Copyedit and proofread test questions, assessment support materials, and other publications for the SAT Suite, ACCUPLACER, AP, and other programs in various formats (digital apps, print, etc.) for clarity, accuracy, and alignment to College Board and industry standards, appropriately applying defined scopes of edit
  • Ensure all deliverables adhere to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage conventions
  • Apply College Board and other relevant style guidelines as appropriate to all edited content
  • Work closely with editorial peers and content developers to ensure content is high-quality and error-free, incorporating feedback and data to support continuous improvement
  • Use research skills to fact check content as needed
  • Work with the editorial team to maintain an in-house assessment style guide
  • Develop and maintain proficiency with a variety of authoring and content management platforms
  • Leverage AI and other technology/tools in editorial workflows and processes to support efficiency and quality
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with editorial peers and stakeholder teams
  • Answer questions, provide feedback, share best practices, and support alignment across assessment development workflows
  • Provide editorial expertise to internal and external customers, clarifying editorial standards and decision rationales for stakeholders as needed
  • Provide peer review and input on editorial questions and discussions
  • Promote a collaborative, constructive, mission-focused work environment in which the highest standards of quality and process are established and maintained while keeping the needs and expectations of students and other stakeholders foremost in mind
  • Contribute to shared documentation, templates, and workflow improvements
  • Assist with process improvement, pilots, and other strategic efforts in a supporting role

  • Participate in pilots, research efforts, or new workflow implementation efforts
  • Assist with various other special projects or team initiatives as assigned
