About The Position

The Associate Director of the Writing and Communication Center ( WCC )/Accent on Communicating Coordinator is a full-time staff position that will be responsible for coordinating and expanding services and activities for graduate and online students. This may include assisting with the recruitment of additional graduate writing consultants and eTutors for the online Correctional Education, providing face-to-face, Zoom-facilitated, or other workshops for graduate students in various colleges and at different sites; working with the Graduate, Adult, and Online Education Center to identify student needs and opportunities for support; and providing review of student work. The Associate Director will also assist the WCC Director in providing effective undergraduate services. As Accent on Communicating (AoC) Coordinator, the Associate Director will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of the AoC Initiative, which involves providing guidance for Writing Across the Curriculum ( WAC ), Writing in the Disciplines ( WID ), and Communication Across the Curriculum (CxC) programming at Ashland University. The AoC Coordinator will work closely with faculty on the development, implementation, and assessment of a writing-and-communication-enhanced curriculum. The AoC Coordinator will also collaborate with the Center for Innovation and Teaching Excellence ( CITE ) to provide faculty development opportunities to improve the teaching and learning of written and oral communication across the curriculum and in the disciplines. This position may require some weekend and evening hours as well as travel between campuses as needed. Associate Director WCC (50%) Assist the WCC Director with the development and coordination of tutor training that prepares tutors to help students with oral and multimodal communication assignments. Provide timely and effective feedback on graduate student work. Help expand the WCC services to students and faculty across programs and campuses. Assist the WCC Director with the operations of the WCC as needed. Assist with the recruitment of additional graduate writing consultants and eTutors for the online Correctional Education as needed. Coordinate study groups and workshops to meet student and faculty needs. Assist the WCC Director with the creation of various documents such as undergraduate and graduate schedules, session reports, program web pages, timesheets, and training documents and materials. Work with the WCC Director to plan and schedule faculty workshops and events as needed. Assist with management of multiple services, including meetings, events, and trainings. Work with the WCC Director to assess and track student appointments. Other duties as assigned. Coordinate Accent on Communicating initiative (50%) Coordinate with the Faculty Director of Accent on Communicating to design, plan, and implement faculty development programs to promote the teaching and learning of communication across the curriculum. Work closely with the Faculty Director of AoC to provide leadership across the university on issues pertaining to communication across the curriculum and in the disciplines. Collaborate with faculty in all disciplines to integrate best communication practices into their teaching. Develop a writing-and-communication-enhanced curriculum in collaboration with faculty. Work with departments, colleges, programs, and committees to implement communication across the curriculum. Assist with the completion of programmatic reviews. Assist faculty in the colleges with the assessment of student oral and written communication outcomes. Keep abreast of current research and best practices in communication across the curriculum and share acquired knowledge with appropriate constituencies Engage in professional development opportunities as appropriate and available.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in English, Communication, or a related field
  • Experience with teaching or tutoring at the college level
  • Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet, and other productivity applications
  • Ability to learn emerging technologies
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to maintain a positive working environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using WCOnline or other scheduling and reporting platform as well as Learning Management Systems, such as Blackboard
  • Experience with program assessment
  • Experience giving both synchronous and asynchronous feedback on student work
  • Experience developing and implementing faculty workshops and educational materials
