Reporting to the Director of the Tutoring Center, the Associate Director is responsible for the complete oversight of designated Tutoring Centers. In the Director's absence, the Associate Director assumes responsibility for the daily operation of the Tutoring Center and acts as the Director in meetings and other external interactions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in designated center, education, or a related field.
  • Three to four years of experience teaching in a classroom.
  • Experience with one-on-one and group tutoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with software programs for Tutoring Center data management.
  • Demonstrated ability in use of social media to promote tutoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide tutoring services on virtual platforms.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently with a minimum of supervision and work as the lead in projects as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and accuracy, especially when working with student database records and other records.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, family members, visitors, groups and organizations, both internal and external to the University.
  • An ability to work with a broad array of students with wide-ranging needs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, administrators and visitors regarding complicated and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to education and student success.
  • Available to work occasional nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with University Faculty, develop and implement curriculum-based tutoring programs to meet the needs of designated courses, particularly in first-year courses.
  • Monitor tutor engagement, as well as responsiveness to and execution of instructors' directives.
  • Schedule, and attend as necessary, meetings between tutors and faculty.
  • Work closely with faculty to schedule supplemental instruction programs and review sessions with students.
  • In collaboration with the Director, design and implement an electronic student satisfaction survey to assess functions respective to the area of responsibility. Analyze results of student satisfaction survey and make appropriate recommendations based on findings.
  • Develop tutorial support for grant-funded initiatives targeting underrepresented and underserved populations.
  • Manage the recruiting, hiring, and scheduling of student tutors in designated centers.
  • Review and process timekeeping records for student tutors and update Director on payroll budget activity.
  • Create, post, and distribute tutoring schedules, including frequent updates concerning group review sessions, tutor schedule changes, and notifications of tutor absences.
  • Manage the professional development of designated center tutors through engaging, innovative, and consistent training sessions.
  • Develop supplemental instruction and programming to support the curricular needs of students in foundational courses.
  • Manage the payroll budget for tutors in designated centers.
  • Formulate and prepare an annual report on the progress and business conducted by the designated Centers and in-Center duties, which includes preparing a summary of the goals and objectives for the coming year.
  • Communicate the overall goals and available services of the Tutoring Center to students, faculty, Deans, advisors, prospective students and their families, and the University community.
  • Act as liaison between the Tutoring Center and academic schools for issues relating to designated curriculum.
  • Act as liaison with the Information Technology Department to maintain computers and other technology in the Tutoring Center.
  • Represent the Tutoring Center and the Center for Student Academic Success during summer and fall orientation sessions.
  • Coordinate with the Director and other members of CSAS staff to prepare and deliver presentations at Family Weekend, open houses, and Accepted Student Days to promote the services of the Tutoring Center.
  • Manage the content and design of the Tutoring Center's website and social media accounts. This includes regular updates of schedules and staffing.
  • Serve as part of the Tutoring Center's line of contact for parents/families, faculty, staff and student walk-ins.
  • Along with the Director and the Administrative Assistant, oversee the daily management of the front desk assistants in directing students to appropriate support.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Tutoring Center's policies and procedures.
  • Participate in coordinating student success initiatives for the student population.
  • Collaborate with the Director on the annual Lt. Charles A. Henderson Outstanding Tutor Award, and other related activities.
  • Manage the software program (TracCloud) for tracking student visits and making appointments, including system performance and updates.
  • Coordinate outreach to RWU IT, software providers, and department users.
  • Oversee distribution of attendance reports to instructors and advisors through TracCloud system.
  • Investigate new opportunities for using TracCloud system to improve services and retention.
  • Create and update TracCloud User Guide for Tutoring Center and external department users.
  • Asses current and emerging tracking technologies and recommend technological solutions appropriate to the Department's needs.
  • Implement and maintain remote tutoring systems to provide greater access, and effectiveness of service, for student populations on and off campus, including during summer and winter intersessions.
  • Create and distribute schedules for remote tutoring systems.
  • Train users on software technology, and coordinate hardware and software support with other University constituents, as needed.
  • Develop external funding initiatives such as grant writing, alumni-targeted giving campaigns, donor-based capital and equipment improvements, and others, as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy protocols as required by FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and ADAAA (American's with Disabilities Act Amendments Act).
  • Participate in Divisional or University-wide committees, as assigned.
