About The Position

The Global Tax function at Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) is undergoing a multi-year transformation driven by new leadership and a renewed vision for how tax supports the business. This role, based at the Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporate Office in Orlando, FL, reports to the Assistant Vice President, Global Tax Transformation. The Associate Director, Global Tax Transformation plays a pivotal role in modernizing and optimizing MVW’s Tax Department’s operations by supporting operational transformation initiatives that align with business priorities and regulatory requirements. The Associate Director serves as a Project Manager who manages and delivers tax transformation projects successfully. The role also serves as a tax technology product owner by defining functional operational requirements of individual technology products that support Global Tax operations. In addition, the role supports the adoption of GT delivered technology tools and platforms, and internal process improvements that enhance operational efficiencies, ensure compliance, support audit readiness, and enable data-driven decision making across MVW’s Global Tax functional operations. Assigned business projects and support efforts are varied in scope and duration and encompass one or more of the following project management elements: project definition, performance metrics and reporting, detailed planning, issues and risks, tactical operations support, development of deliverables, timeline development and management, implementation of deployment plans, training development, communications strategy, and content development. The role interacts with senior Global Tax leaders on transformation project design and implementation matters that support making Global Tax a dynamic capability for MVW. Candidates must demonstrate technical tax expertise, the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to upholding MVW’s standards of integrity and excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or similar discipline
  • At least eight years of progressive work experience managing projects that support functional, strategic transformation initiatives, preferably in Global Tax
  • Experience leveraging analytics, automation, or low-code tools from a business requirements and governance perspective (development owned by GT)
  • Ability to apply listening, written, and verbal communication skills to prepare written reports, correspondence, for presentation to senior leaders
  • Experience managing strategic organization transformational initiatives within a multi-national, multi-business line, corporate matrix structure, and a publicly traded business
  • Understanding of financial regulatory compliance standards such as SOX and GAAP
  • Relates well to people at all levels both inside and outside of the organization
  • Possesses a strong personal presence who deals with senior leaders with confidence and poise

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and designs fit-for-purpose processes, tools, and controls required to operate in the new operating model and in support of functional business strategy of Global Tax
  • Manages assigned tactical support efforts as well as overall management in support of the successful delivery of assigned Global Tax transformation projects
  • Manages the definition and documentation of business requirements, controls, and operating procedures for GT-delivered tax technology solutions that streamline reporting, compliance, and analytics
  • Ensures business requirements for assigned projects are clearly identified and documented
  • Partners with process owners to understand pain points and deliver tailored improvement strategies
  • Monitors achievement of project milestones and deliverables of project teams; identify, manages, and tracks project issues and risks through to resolution
  • Ensures critical interdependencies are identified, defined, and managed in transition and transformation project plans while defining workable integration mechanisms
  • Evaluates methods that measure the effectiveness of transition and transformation projects including broad organizational acceptance and adoption of intended outcomes
  • Assists in achieving business results by identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of business processes, guiding project participants, where appropriate, and serving as point-of-contact for risk and issue management, and problem resolution
  • Provides accurate and timely reporting of project performance against project plans and the business case; communicates progress to MVW stakeholders
  • Stays current with emerging tax-relevant technologies and applies strategic business thinking to assess their relevance and potential impact
  • Represents the Tax Department in enterprise-wide tax technology products, platform, and system implementations advocating for tax-related requirements and functionality
  • Scopes communications plans, defines content and story lines, and executes change management and communications plans in support of achieving transition and transformation project results
  • Manages relationships with internal representatives and external service providers supporting global tax transformation efforts, ensuring quality, timeliness, and adherence to budget and MVW company standards
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Assists with ad hoc tax projects and initiatives to meet business and statutory deadlines
  • Performs other reasonable job duties as requested
