About The Position

The Student Support Services (SSS) Senior Manager is a 12-month, full-time professional staff member in the Academic Advancement Center (AAC) and reports directly to the Director of TRIO Programs. This professional is responsible for providing administrative leadership for SSS, including planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the programs and services to achieve project objectives and mission in accordance with federal legislation and regulations, EDGAR, and OMB Uniform Guidance relevant to the administration of an SSS project. In the absence of the TRIO Director, the Senior Manager will assume additional leadership responsibilities. This is a grant-funded appointment that ends August 31, 2026, with the possibility of renewal depending upon satisfactory performance and ongoing funding for your position. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field
  • Five years of full-time professional experience working in academic support programs or programs supporting underrepresented populations in higher education settings. This requirement may include graduate-level work experience through assistantships or internships.
  • Two years of experience of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education leadership roles, with proven ability to provide strategic vision, conduct planning, design and implement programs, lead evaluation efforts, and scale student success initiatives serving underrepresented populations
  • One year experience of supervision experience of professional staff
  • Demonstrated computer application skills (MS Excel, Access, or other database programs), computer-assisted learning, and prior experience with database entry
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with college students from underrepresented backgrounds, including those who are first-generation, limited-income, and/or with disabilities
  • Pre-employment criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling, or related field
  • Prior experience working in TRIO or similar programs
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills as evidenced by public presentations to a variety of audiences, workshops, trainings, teaching, facilitation, etc.
  • Experience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student staff
  • Demonstrated experience relating effectively with a variety of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, and community
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively independently and as a team player

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with completing reports, including the Annual Performance Report to the U.S. Department of Education and CSU
  • Serves as a supervisor for the SSS Manager, 2 Retention Specialists, as well as 3-5 Student Staff members
  • Lead the new student recruitment process and manage the SSS Individual Student Travel fund
  • Ensures that programs are designed and implemented in accordance with the federal legislation and regulations for serving students
  • Maintain strong partnerships with the Community for Excellence on-campus partners and Scholar Contacts; support on-campus retention initiatives with special focus on students from first-generation and limited income communities; contribute to the development and implementation of a shared vision for the Academic Advancement Center at CSU
  • Oversee the student databases and electronic files (Student Access, Navigate, Aries, etc.) to ensure accurate and consistent inputting and management of student data and contact entry
  • Assist the TRIO SSS Director in the administration and management of the program budgets
  • Attend occasional evening and weekend events and programs (3-6 events per semester)
