About The Position

The Associate Director of Student Affairs at Scripps Research is a senior leadership role focused on enhancing the success of the Skaggs Graduate School and other educational programs. Requirements

  • Master's Degree or PhD in higher education, education administration, student affairs, business or public administration, counseling, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in academic settings with expertise in graduate education and student services.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • Experience with international graduate students preferred.
  • Experience counseling students and knowledge of student development theories.
  • Skills in analyzing and interpreting policies related to graduate student life.
  • Strong relationship-building, leadership, supervisory, communication, project management, analytical, and public speaking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support students' academic progress, providing counseling and coordinating interventions.
  • Offer ongoing counseling to graduate students and refer them to internal and external resources.
  • Respond to student crisis situations and provide consultation on complex graduate student cases.
  • Lead and coordinate strategies for student leaves, accommodations, and disability services, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Provide guidance to faculty on student engagement, well-being, and mentoring best practices.
  • Evaluate and optimize policies, procedures, and services related to graduate student support in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Develop and interpret academic policies to enhance the graduate training experience.
  • Uphold academic standards and manage disciplinary processes.
  • Partner with the International Services Office to refine policies and workflows for documentation and approvals.
  • Oversee community building, academic readiness, and wellness initiatives for trainees.
  • Advocate for the diverse needs of graduate students and promote inclusive learning environments.
  • Advise campus trainee groups, coordinating events and representing the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Ensure successful execution of key academic events such as commencement and orientation.
  • Support internal and external recognition of student achievements.
  • Supervise members of the Office of Graduate Studies team and oversee graduate student recruitment and admissions.
