Banner University Medical Center - (Tucson) South Campus, houses the only Level 1 Academic Medical Center in Tucson meeting the needs of the SMI population. The Behavioral Health Pavilion is also the largest inpatient psychiatric service in Southern Arizona. Our team provides patients a safe, supportive environment that fosters healing and facilitates a return to the highest possible level of independence. Other services include; crisis stabilization, psychiatric assessments, 24-hours psychiatric & nursing care, expressive arts therapy, group therapy, family support therapy, medication management, and a separate behavioral health unit within the Emergency Department. You can become an integral member of our patient's team, along with psychiatric doctors, NPs, pharmacists, Registered Nurses and security officers. As the BUMC South Tucson Associate Director Registered Nurse RN Inpatient Behavioral Health you will lead up to 50 staff members and oversee daily operation within the unit: interviews, committee work, quality initiatives, day to day operations. This is leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of the assigned areas. Serves as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem-solving on patients, processes, recruitment and family issues. Manages the operations of the unit to provide safe, cost effective and quality patient care. The leadership team is comprised of 3 Associate Directors, a traditional ROSS and Nursing Director. The leadership team works closely with bedside staff, quality specialists and stakeholders to strive for continued improvement and achieve department success. The ideal candidate would have leadership experience in Behavioral Health: as a House Supervisor, Associate Director, or Nurse Manager. This position requires a BSN at minimum, current valid RN license, fingerprint clearance and strong customer service and ability to navigate challenges. This is a Full-Time, Monday – Friday, typically 8am-5pm, with every other Friday off. Leaders rotate on-call to include holidays. Banner - University Medical Center South is a comprehensive academic medical center that includes an Emergency department, a state-designated trauma center and a Behavioral Health Pavilion. We are an Arizona Department of Health Services-accredited Cardiac Receiving Center and a Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders-designated senior-friendly hospital. The hospital is staffed by physicians who are full-time faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and is managed by Banner Health under an operating agreement with Pima County. Our specialty services include inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, treatment and education for diabetes, innovative geriatrics care and comprehensive orthopedics. POSITION SUMMARY This position provides managerial and clinical support to patients and staff. Uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure the provision of high quality, safe, and cost effective patient care. Demonstrates clinical expertise and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of the assigned areas.

Requirements

  • BSN or MSN required for all new hires. BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.
  • Requires a current RN license in state of practice.
  • Requires BLS certification.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management as normally demonstrated through two years of clinical management experience relevant to patient population.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area.
  • Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes.
  • Must have the ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements.
  • In LTC setting: Requires familiarity with Alzheimer’s disease and developmental disabilities.
  • Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Manages and facilitates patient centered nursing care for designated patient populations by serving as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues. Manages the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management and resource utilization.
  • Leads change by developing, implementing and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the director. Seeks and utilizes input from staff and oversees change implementation. Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Facilitates communication of system, regional, facility and department initiatives.
  • Manages and develops the operational and capital budgets and use of associated resources.
  • Assures the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
  • Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.
  • Manages large single unit or multiple clinical units to ensure excellent patient care. Actively develops leadership of entry level nurse manager(s) while leading clinical improvement initiatives. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family.
