About The Position

The Associate Director of Student Accounting is responsible for managing operations within the student accounting office, with a primary focus on overseeing account receivables. This role involves ensuring accurate and efficient processing of student accounts and payments. The associate director reports to the Bursar and manages staff, develops and implements policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. This is a full-time hybrid role with a minimum of two required days at Excelsior’s home office of 7 Columbia Circle, Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked from home. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience in higher education or finance position with 1 year in a supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and student accounting processes.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: Supervise, train, and evaluate student accounting staff, with a focus on student receivables.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to students, patents and other stakeholders. Address inquiries and resolve issues related to billing, payments, and account statues.
  • Student Receivables: Manage the accounts receivable process within the student accounting office. Oversee the University’s relationship with it’s third-party payment processing vendor.
  • Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures related to student accounting to enhance efficiency and control.
  • Ensure policies are communicated effectively to students and staff.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with institutional policies, state and federal regulations, and industry best practices. Stay updated on changes in regulations affecting student accounting.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on student account statues, accounts receivables, and reconciliation.
  • Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to streamline student accounting operations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as admissions, registrar, and financial aid, to support overall institutional goals
