About The Position

Under the direction of the Student Recreation Center (SRC) Director, the Associate Director of Recreation Programs provides leadership and oversight for a comprehensive portfolio of recreation programs, including fitness, intramural sports, wellness, outdoor recreation, rock wall operations, youth programs, and special events. This position is responsible for program development, staff supervision, budget management, assessment, and ensuring high-quality, inclusive experiences that support student success and well-being.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required or equivalent from a college or university in recreation, physical education/kinesiology, business administration, or a related field.
Must have three to five years related experience in recreation, college union, or student services administration; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of the history and role of campus recreation programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of recreational facilities management, fiscal and personnel management and recreational programming for a diverse campus population.
Ability to stay current on fitness/recreation trends.
Works effectively with co-workers, customers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions; addressing others by name, title or other respectful identifier, and respecting the diversity of our work force in actions words and deeds.

Demonstrated experience working in service organization management.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a complex setting and to organize, schedule, train, and supervise college age and full-time staff.
Must be able to interpret and carry out policies as they relate to the activities of individuals or groups making use of ASI promotional resources (such as electronic marketing systems, equipment, etc.).
Must possess strong written English language skills; ability to write and edit concise, effective promotional text. Must have a working understanding of marketing practices.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills; ability to motivate student volunteers and employees and to engender support for various programs and projects. Must be physically able to perform duties as outlined.
Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the overall operation, function, and programs of the Associated Students Inc.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implication with regard to other programs or service areas of the ASI.
Knowledge of marketing techniques and presentation skills for the promotion of the ASI and its services, increasing visibility within campus and the surrounding community.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizations and management.
Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing program improvements.
Ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate concise information in both oral and written forms.
Ability to prepare and manage budgets as well as financial and cash reports
Employment will be contingent on a satisfactory employment history and criminal background investigation.
May be required to drive occasionally as needed. Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance must be on file at all times and must meet CSURMA driving standards.

Responsibilities

Meets regularly with other management personnel to establish and ensure effective on-going communication and coordination among departments.
Assists ASI Student Recreation Center Director with all aspects of program and service delivery and ensures SRC adherence to the mission, goals, and policies of the Associated Students.
Assists the ASI Student Recreation Director with establishing and implementing policies that provide for the effective operation of the recreation programs and the overall organization.
Responsible for the effective development, delivery, evaluation, and reporting of recreation programs to include, but not limited to, intramurals, fitness, wellness, special events, rock wall, outdoor recreation, and Titan Youth Summer Camp.
Assists the ASI Student Recreation Director with preparing, presenting, and implementing short and long-term departmental goals.
Responsible for the preparation, presentation, and implementation of the recreation programs budget to include managing and meeting expense and revenue goals.
Provides vision and administer efficient and effective recreation programming through engagement in systematic strategic planning, assessment, and reporting.
Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with other recreation, athletic, and student affairs and strategic enrollment management professionals/departments on campus. Works with staff at off-campus sites to develop and run appropriate programs.
Studies and complies with all applicable government regulations.
Assists with written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation statistics, etc.
Collaborate with Director to develop marketing campaign for programs and services.
Collaborate with Director to develop assessment tools.
Develop recommendations to generate revenue growth.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Manages the Recreation Program staff including recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, development, and discipline for the Fitness & Wellness Coordinator, Rockwall, and Outdoor Adventure Coordinator and Intramural and Camp Coordinator.
Provides the Recreation Program staff with support and direction for the planning, development, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of a comprehensive recreation program including fitness, intramural sports, wellness, inclusive recreation, outdoor adventures, Titan Youth Summer Camp, and special events of the SRC.
Conducts ongoing meetings with SRC department staff to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.
Analyzes and establishes proper staffing levels to meet program expectations.
Trains staff on all relevant policies and procedures.
Trains staff on excellent customer service expectations.
Prepares and processes all personnel and payroll documentation and maintain accurate records of all employee data; process payroll vouchers, including student assistants and full-time staff.
Evaluates and provides constructive/developmental feedback to student staff.
Incorporates and implements progressive discipline up to and including termination.
Provides appropriate staffing level during program hours and special events.
Assess effectiveness of, and satisfaction with, department facility and program operations.
Collects, monitors, and analyzing programs use information to identify trends.
Reports data, trends, and recommendations to Director.
Works closely with the ASI Student Recreation Center Director to develop and implement the departmental research and assessment agenda to include development of student outcomes in alignment with Associated Students, Inc’s. standards and in collaboration with related University departments.
Develops, Monitors and Evaluates student development programs within the SRC.
Responsible for coordinating Fall and Spring SRC Staff Trainings.
Oversee the development and implementation of program services, paying particular attention to trends in collegiate recreation and the diverse needs of our campus community.
Schedules staff for maximum participant safety in accordance with established service standards.
Collaborate with Business Operations area for facility reservations associated with programming needs.
Delivers the highest standards of safety, security, building appearance and customer service.
Communicates evening activities, concerns, issues with all staff.
Coordinates and conducts monthly safety training meetings.
Prepares annual income, expense, and capital budget recommendations.
Manages program budgets; review and endorse all budget expenditures prior to submittal to the Director for approval.
Assists with preparation of the annual report including appropriate statistical data, assessment, challenges, and recommendations.
Participates in various committees.
Required to be a Mandatory Reporter and sign ASI Mandatory Reporter Form.
Assists in the development of program specific risk management plans that align with departmental, ASI, and campus emergency plans.
Implement program specific risk management plans including but not limited to: Verification of participant eligibility, Collection and maintenance of required forms rosters, emergency medical, release of liability and accident/injury, Training, and development of program staff in accordance with best practices and industry standards and responding and managing accidents/incidents.
Conducts First Aid/CPR training (up to four per year)
Documents all training and certifications.
Serves on Student Recreation Center Safety and Emergency Team.
