About The Position

The Associate Director of Events & Alumni Relations is a pivotal role within the College of Computer, Mathematical, & Natural Sciences (CMNS) and University Relations teams at the University of Maryland, College Park. This position is responsible for generating innovative event concepts and themes that focus on building relationships and enhancing the experience of donors at events. The Associate Director will plan and implement strategies, programs, and events aimed at increasing participation and engagement among the 60,000 CMNS alumni, particularly targeting major donors and prospects. This role requires collaboration with the Chief Development Officer/Assistant Dean to establish benchmarks and work closely with frontline fundraisers to strengthen donor relationships through meaningful events and engagement opportunities. The Associate Director will manage college-wide and departmental development events that involve alumni, donors, and other external constituents, interacting with high-level administrators both on and off campus. Responsibilities include researching, planning, and executing events, which encompass scheduling, securing venues and vendors, coordinating invitations, managing the registration process, and briefing leadership on event progress and outcomes. The Associate Director will also direct a comprehensive alumni engagement program designed to increase alumni involvement with CMNS, including staffing the CMNS Alumni Network Board and coordinating with the university's Alumni Association staff on campus-wide events. In addition to overseeing the unit's special events budget and coordinating expenses, the Associate Director will work closely with the CMNS Dean's Office event manager to maintain a comprehensive events calendar. This position also involves supervising the Program Manager for Alumni Relations and Development, overseeing event-related briefing materials, and managing annual giving initiatives for CMNS. The Associate Director will analyze ROI data to assess the effectiveness of events and oversee special projects and initiatives as directed by the Dean.
