About The Position

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Directors and Director of CARE and Support (CARE), the Associate Director (AD) of CARE is responsible to provide support coordination services for students and case management for the CARE Team at Liberty University. The Associate Director will address behaviors to prevent harm to self, others, and the University Community and will also refer students with behavioral needs to appropriate resources. The Associate Director is responsible for leading, developing, and implementing a case management system, which will recommend, coordinate, facilitate, and monitor responses to reports of concerning behaviors, which may include providing feedback, coaching, remediation, referral for mental health or other specialized care, discipline, or other actions. The Associate Director will assist the Senior ADs and Director in conducting ongoing threat assessment and management of referrals of concerning behavior in conjunction with the CARE Team, when appropriate. The Associate Director of CARE must clearly understand student development theory and practice, policies and procedures relating to the CARE Team, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree with a concentration in mental health, psychology, social work, counseling, student development, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of threat assessment and case management trends related to higher education is required.

  • Crisis management experience
  • Strong commitment to, and experience in, working with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of legal issues related to behavioral intervention
  • Exceptional abilities to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information
  • Exceptional skills in understanding, speaking and writing English to convey messages and correspond articulately and professionally
  • Possess public communication skills that allow the professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of campus and community customers and associates
  • Ability to speak in front of audiences of varying compositions and sizes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and related software
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to train and coach others
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

  • Mid-level management experience and/or student development-related experience in a management capacity is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Senior Associate Directors and Director of CARE to ensure the standard of the industry function for the CARE Team.
  • Maintain caseload of students and provide support coordination services.
  • Meet with students within the scope of responsibility for the purpose of behavioral inquiry, providing resources and advisement via a biblical worldview.
  • Facilitate consultations with relevant departments, faculty, staff, and other involved parties surrounding complex student situations regarding concerning behavior(s).
  • Assist in conducting trainings for the CARE Team.
  • Organize and develop informational opportunities to educate the campus community on the purpose and practice of the CARE Referral system at the University.
  • Develop and distribute reports, forms, and educational materials, and assist the Dean of Students Office and others in developing workshops and online modules related to communication skills, respectful feedback, developing healthy coping skills, and learning how to process the effects of secondhand trauma.
  • Contact parents and emergency contacts as needed for the purpose of student support and within FERPA guidelines.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for faculty, staff, and students when there is a report of concerning behaviors.
  • Record cases in a database, manage follow-up, and track outcomes of all incidents related to CARE cases.
  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Associate Directors and Director of CARE to develop and update protocols for recording the activities of CARE.
  • Maintain awareness of the best practices in the development of behavioral intervention teams and university case management programs.
  • Consult regularly with the Faculty Chairpersons, Office of Community Life, Office of Residence Life, Office of Disability Accommodation Support, Counseling and Psychological Services, Office of Equal Rights and Title IX, Liberty University Police Department (LUPD), and other related areas.
  • Assist in the facilitation of threat assessments using industry standard threat assessment instruments.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Associate Directors and Director of CARE, the Dean of Students, and other university groups, develop and present workshops and training programs to assist faculty, staff, and students in dealing with problem situations.
  • Assist Senior Associate Directors and Director of CARE in collegiate peer recovery program groups, workshops, activities, etc. (as needed).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate marketing strategies for CARE including brochures, website, and other promotional materials.
  • Attend Dean of Students, departmental, and official Liberty University meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with other CARE staff regarding case information, communication with Liberty community members, communication with external parties, etc.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.
