The Basic Needs department within the Division of the Vice President, Student Affairs Office, provides comprehensive programs and support to students who experience unforeseen hardships that often result in food, housing, and financial insecurity.  Forms of assistance include food support, temporary housing, grant funds, hygiene products, and access to gently worn professional attire. Students are also provided with guidance and referrals to on and off-campus resources. Such support alleviates the distress of meeting one’s basic needs while also managing academic, work, and other responsibilities, thus promoting well-being and retention. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director of Basic Needs Services (Administrator I). Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social science or related field.
  • Experience in a leadership position.
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide conflict resolution.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
  • Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience working with basic needs in a higher education environment.
  • One to three years of direct experience in basic needs work.
  • Working knowledge of CSU guidelines and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction of the Director of Basic Needs Services (BNS), the Associate Director of Basic Needs Services (AD) oversees, directs, and supervises the Assistant Directors of Basic Needs Services and overall non-clinical case management services for students experiencing food, housing, and/or financial insecurity.
  • The Associate Director serves as the lead and non-clinical case manager for students experiencing sensitive and complex basic needs insecurities.
  • Provides the Director with critical information and feedback on core matters related to student success such as complex student Basic Needs Services requests and changes to services to support students’ needs.
  • The Associate Director assists with developing, implementing, and assessing the vision, purpose, aims, objectives, and strategies for department programs and services.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for human resources operations within the functional areas of including recruitments, labor relations, evaluations, and staff training as related to the Assistant Directors.
  • Assist with designing and analyzing assessment outcomes to align with the University Strategic Plan, coordinating student and campus-wide assessments regarding non-clinical case management.
  • Works closely with the Director on complex student referrals and concerns.
  • This position will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining partnerships with campus and community stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
