About The Position

The Associate Director of Admissions, Community Engagement, and Premedical Enrichment Programs plays a critical role in advancing the Perelman School of Medicine’s mission to broaden access to medical education and support student success. This position oversees the PASS Program and the Johnson Scholars Program, coordinates recruitment and outreach initiatives, and provides advising and mentorship to students. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Admissions with faculty oversight from the Assistant Dean for Premedical Enrichment and Experiences, working in close coordination with the Associate Dean for Student Engagement, Networking and Enrichment and student leaders. This role requires exceptional organizational and project management skills, the ability to oversee multiple programs simultaneously, and a commitment to fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive academically and professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Strong advising, mentoring, and interpersonal skills with the ability to support students from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of barriers that may impact students’ educational access and success.
  • Proficiency in data management, maintaining longitudinal records, and generating detailed reports to assess outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and relationship-building across stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale events and programs.
  • Proficiency with using survey tools (e.g., Google Forms, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics).
  • Ability to analyze survey data and summarize results for program evaluation and improvement.
  • Experience with recruitment, outreach, and student engagement strategies.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Competency with managing program and event budgets.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to foster a supportive environment.
  • Flexibility to travel for conferences and recruitment events, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a 60-student undergraduate medical school preparation program (The Johnson Scholars Program), providing one-on-one intrusive advising, planning and organizing monthly enrichment events, and serving as an additional line of support during times of crisis.
  • Maintain student records and reports, manage intake and selection processes, and conduct exit interviews.
  • Manage and lead Perelman’s Penn Access Summer Scholars program, overseeing undergraduate advising, event and curriculum planning, and supervision of medical student mentors.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the program to ensure successful implementation and to support students in gaining entry to Perelman’s School of Medicine.
  • Lead outreach recruitment efforts surrounding Perelman admissions, including coordinating the student-driven recruitment teams.
  • Attend and host recruiting events, including on-campus sessions/virtual fairs, and travel to external conferences.
  • Maintain open communication with prospective students and serve as an advocate throughout the application season.
  • Maintain longitudinal data and generate detailed reports to track outcomes, measure program effectiveness, and inform decision-making.
  • Serve as a resource for current medical students by building and maintaining relationships with cultural affinity group leaders.
  • Plan and implement all aspects of the annual community outreach event, A Day in the Life, serving more than 150 undergraduate students.
  • Assist with ongoing recruitment events as needed, managing individual inquiries and coordinating visit requests.
  • Collaborate with faculty and student mentors to manage networking opportunities and support recruitment activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
