About The Position

The Associate Director of Nursing for the Emergency Room Service Adult at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the nursing service and nursing education program within the hospital. This role includes performing all duties of the Director of Nursing in their absence, developing nursing service philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards, and overseeing staffing plans and personnel recruitment. The Associate Director will also manage budgets for nursing, direct training and continuing education programs, evaluate personnel performance, and maintain relationships with community and professional groups to develop new nursing programs and policies. Additionally, the position involves assessing nursing services through rounds and chart reviews, and participating in the ongoing evaluation of nursing service.

Requirements

  • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
  • A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, or an equivalent field with a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which must be in a supervisory, teaching, or administrative capacity; or
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with seven years of satisfactory nursing experience, five years of which must be in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of the Director of Nursing in their absence.
  • Participate in developing philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of nursing service and education.
  • Develop and implement a staffing plan and direct recruitment and selection of personnel.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, direct, and evaluate assigned projects and programs.
  • Assist the Director in preparation of personnel, supply, and equipment budgets for nursing.
  • Plan, direct, organize, and evaluate programs of orientation, training, and continuing education for nursing personnel.
  • Direct the evaluation of personnel performance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community, labor, and professional groups for new nursing programs and policies.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of nursing service.
  • Assess nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart reviews, and evaluating patient care.
  • Participate in a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service.
