About The Position

The Associate Director of Men’s Inn is responsible for the day, evening and overnight operations and management of three shift supervisors. The Associate Director directly supervises shift supervisors, working collaboratively with peer Associate Directors, Directors, Sr. Directors, and Leadership. The Associate Director will assist the Shelter Director with the day-to-day operations of the Men’s Inn Emergency Shelter. In addition, they will support the Director on prioritized tasks. This is a highly responsible position, demanding great flexibility and decision-making skills; strong stewardship of the relationship with the staff, security and leadership; staff hiring, training and retention; staff management and supervision. The position will have three (3) fundamental goals: Create a safe environment for staff and guests utilizing and reinforcing the principles of Trauma-Informed Care and Harm Reduction in all aspects of the shelters policies, procedures and interactions. Working closely with the Director, Men’s Inn, the Director of Coordinated Housing Solution, Shelter Clinical Services and the Director of Triage, to support the evolution of the PSI shelters in providing more proactive engagement with shelter guests to motivate movement toward housing. Elevate the performance of approximately 50 or more Emergency Shelter staff through implementing strong management and supervision tools for direct care staff. The Associate Director provides administrative oversight to the shelter teams; builds relationships and networks with agencies and entities providing services and supports essential to homeless individuals in Pine Street Inn Men’s Inn; is responsible for program content including the implementation of effective practices (Motivational Interviewing, Comprehensive Case Management, Harm Reduction and Trauma-Informed Care); and ensures the provision of high quality guest services on a 24/7 basis. The Associate Director is responsible for day-to day operations and serves as a primary contact with outside agencies and treatment partners. The Associate Director will be responsible for understanding and ensuring compliance to all rules and regulations related to funding sources, ADA requirements, and accommodations. The Associate Director, in collaboration with the Director of Men’s Inn, will work to develop consistent policies and procedures for delivering services. The Associate Director maybe be asked to represent PSI at City working groups and other relevant work groups as needed. In conjunction with the Shelter Director and peer Associate Directors, work closely with Supervisors to identify staff skill/knowledge gaps and implement training as needed; develop supervision tools; collaborate with senior leadership to lead department wide strategic planning effort for new initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field or equivalent years of combined education, experience and/or training
  • Strong computer and math skills, including familiarity with MS Word, Excel and ability to learn and successfully use MIS & HMIS programs
  • Training and experience in Trauma-Informed Care
  • Training and experience in Harm Reduction
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a social service setting
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience in a social services setting
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience delivering services to a challenged population often struggling with addiction and untreated or under-treated mental health concerns

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years or more of prior supervisory experience
  • Successful experience leading working unit of similar scope and size through change
  • Working knowledge of local resources for men experiencing homelessness/extreme poverty
  • Working knowledge of Housing First
  • Working knowledge of local substance abuse and mental health resources
  • Experience complying with disability law in a place of public accommodation
  • Experience reviewing and evaluating requests for Reasonable Accommodation in a social service setting
  • Bilingual, with a preference for English/Spanish
