About The Position

The Associate Director, Medical Communications and Publications leads the US scientific medical communications and all locally developed publications within the assigned therapeutic area. This role provides strategic direction and tactical execution overseeing the planning and execution of scientific communications to ensure alignment with medical and business objectives. Serving as the primary point of contact for the development and deployment of US scientific communication materials including field medical resources, presentation content, and scientific congress deliverables. The Associate Director also oversees all locally developed scientific publications such as abstracts and manuscripts. The role will collaborate closely with senior cross functional partners including the Therapy Area Head, Medical Directors, Field Medical, HEOR/RWE leads, Clinical Operations, Corporate Communications, and Global Medical Affairs to ensure the delivery of cohesive, high quality, and impactful communication strategies.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a doctorate (PharmD/MD/PhD) with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Industry experience in Medical Communication, Publications, and/or Medical Affairs, within a pharmaceutical/biotech company or scientific publication/medical communication agency.
  • Understanding of methods of data generation and dissemination and activities related to planning, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials.
  • Ability to engage collaboratively with external experts (investigators, opinion leaders) in the disease area.
  • Working knowledge of ICMJE/GPP 2022 guidelines.
  • Fluent in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant therapy area experience is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with communications and publications review systems is a plus (e.g., Veeva, Datavision).

Responsibilities

  • Medical Communications: Support local medical affairs planning, development, and tracking use of internal and external scientific communication materials for supported products in the assigned therapeutic area.
  • Partner with medical teams on the development and review of medical communication materials, ensuring that the most-up-date, scientific information is included and in compliance with all global and local regulations and guidelines.
  • Provide input on scientific communication platforms (SCPs) in collaboration with the Global team.
  • Implement omnichannel communication tactics in line with overall strategy to ensure consistent and effective communication across various platforms, including digital, print, and social media.
  • Publications: Support the preparation and maintenance of rolling 18-month strategic publication plans from a local perspective in coordination with Global publications leads and local stakeholders.
  • Prepare for and follow up on actions from regular publication team meetings, aligning with goals set by the Medical Strategy Team.
  • Manage the process for review, approval, and submission/presentation of locally developed publications.
  • Ensure that all publication activities are of high scientific and medical quality and meet Good Publication Practices standards, align with SOPs and are documented appropriately.
  • Support communication with external authors for the development, review, and approval of publications, including the management of publication steering committees, if applicable.
  • Ensure adherence to ICMJE/GPP and company policies and procedures for publications, staying abreast of any new advances and guideline updates and partnering with GMPC on ensuring training and adherence.
  • Manage external agency partners to ensure quality and timelines of publications are met.
  • Overall: Develop and communicate publication and communication planning objectives, tactics, and processes to key stakeholders and ensure their proactive involvement in delivery, aligning with Medical Strategy Team guidance.
  • Prepare and manage budgets in collaboration with finance and other relevant functions.
  • Establish and maintain a strong partnership with Medical Affairs colleagues and cross-functional partners at local and global level.
  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Ipsen U.S. staff.
