Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/innovative-medicine The Associate Director, Learning Excellence – Solid Tumor Oncology Medical Affairs serves as a strategic and executional partner responsible for shaping clinical & capability development of the Solid Tumor Medical Affairs organization. This role is responsible for designing, developing, executing, and evolving training programs that enable Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to demonstrate excellence in both clinical and scientific engagement with Healthcare Providers and Opinion Leaders, to support clinical research programs, and to provide internal scientific support. Collaboration with internal partners to identify training needs and shape the clinical learning strategy, including onboarding curriculum, product and evidence launches, continuous learning initiatives, and ongoing knowledge reinforcement will be vital. This individual will also be adept at leveraging future‑forward learning platforms, AI‑enabled solutions, and simulation‑based education to strengthen capabilities in both field and in-house medical affairs teams.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a medical, clinical, adult education, or organizational/instructional design-related field required
A minimum of 5 years related professional experience in a learning & development or medical affairs role (e.g., medical science liaison, medical communications, commercial/medical affairs trainer, instructional/curriculum designer, organizational designer, etc.)
Demonstrated success designing, executing & measuring complex learning programs in cross‑matrixed organizations
Ability to simultaneously manage & deliver upon multiple priorities
Proven ability to proactively communicate with, influence, consult, and build partnerships across multiple stakeholder groups
Experience using learning data and insights to guide decision‑making
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Growth mindset with strong problem‑solving, adaptability and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree, Pharm.D, or Ph.D. preferred
Therapeutic knowledge of Solid Tumor Oncology and the role of the Medical Science Liaison, including both clinical proficiency & strong scientific engagement skills
Prior experience in disease/product knowledge & launch readiness for Bladder, Prostate, Lung, Head & Neck and/or Colorectal cancers in the pharmaceutical industry

Responsibilities

Strategic Learning Design & Execution Design and execute quarterly & annual learning strategies that align with Solid Tumor Medical Affairs priorities and evolving field needs.
Translate complex scientific, clinical, and engagement requirements into instructionally sound, field‑ready learning experiences.
Ensure learning strategies support both scientific depth and engagement excellence Own launch & legacy training MSL Clinical & Scientific Engagement Excellence
Design, develop, and facilitate scientific learning solutions & skill-based training that elevates field medical (MSL) capabilities in competitive scientific exchange, clinical excellence, data interpretation, and compliant engagement with HCPs.
Partner with subject matter experts to ensure content is delivered accurately, is relevant, and is aligned to current and emerging evidence.
Reinforce best practices for field application through reinforcement, coaching tools, and ongoing learning pathways.
Cross‑Matrixed Partnership & Influence Build strong, trust‑based relationships across Medical Affairs, Field leadership, Learning Excellence, and cross-functional partners to co-create scalable learning solutions
Facilitate needs‑assessment discussions across leadership levels to identify training priorities using available insights (e.g., field feedback, performance inputs, training metrics).
Coordinate partner-facilitated training opportunities across Medical Affairs, Field Teams and Global teams as needed.
Serve as a thought partner to stakeholders on modern learning approaches, including the use of technology, asynchronous delivery and AI to improve learning effectiveness and efficiency.
Influence alignment and shared ownership of training materials & outcomes without direct authority.
Operational Excellence & Program Delivery Own end‑to-end execution of Solid Tumor Medical Affairs learning initiatives, including planning, development, delivery, and evaluation across live, digital and hybrid formats.
Lead vendor‑supported learning projects from scoping through delivery, ensuring quality, timelines, and learner impact.
Own & maintain clinical curriculum and field role-based learning journeys.
Utilize review governance (i.e. Medical Review Committee, Legal, Regulatory and HCC) to evaluate training materials to ensure they are compliant, fair & balanced.
Manage multiple training & learning initiatives simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and consistency Utilize frequent communication to ensure continuous stakeholder alignment in a rapidly changing scientific landscape.
Data‑Informed Learning & Continuous Improvement Incorporate success metrics & evaluate learning effectiveness, moving beyond participant satisfaction to assess behavioral change and enhanced field excellence.
Adapt programs based on individual and organizational impact.
Use qualitative and quantitative inputs to identify capability gaps and prioritize business return on learning investments (ROI).
Continuously refine training approaches to reflect evolving medical strategy, market dynamics and field needs.
Innovation & Organizational Savvy Identify and pilot innovative learning approaches while operating effectively within compliance and organizational constraints.
Leverage learning platforms, technology and emerging AI capabilities to optimize efficiency in content development and deployment, enhance learner engagement and practice opportunities and enable scalable, consistent experiences across the field
