About The Position

The ACLU is seeking a full-time Associate Director, Leadership Gifts to join its Development Department in New York, NY. This hybrid role involves engaging with a portfolio of major donors to secure leadership gifts, deepen donor relationships, and support the ACLU's mission of promoting equity and justice. The position emphasizes personal solicitation and prospect management, aiming to enhance donor engagement and funding for the organization.

Requirements

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with donors and prospects.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of major donors and implementing solicitation strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence and motivate donors and colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational skills for project management and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience coaching solicitation partners and providing feedback on donor strategies.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of donor data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to travel.

  • Experience with evolving trends in charitable giving.
  • Familiarity with fundraising databases.
  • Experience working at complex national or international nonprofits.

Responsibilities

  • Secure leadership gifts from a portfolio of 100-125 donors, including those giving $10,000+ and prospects with $100,000+ capacity.
  • Develop and implement strategies for donor identification, discovery, qualification, and cultivation.
  • Engage in personal solicitation, negotiation, and closing of gifts.
  • Plan and conduct face-to-face donor visits tied to annual key performance indicators.
  • Maintain knowledge of ACLU programmatic priorities and issues.
  • Build collaborative relationships with development colleagues and ACLU affiliate directors.
  • Empower staff to deepen relationships with donors and prospects through coaching and strategy briefings.
  • Undertake special projects within the Development Department as needed.
  • Maintain accurate donor information and interactions in the donor database.
