About The Position

The Associate Director, Investigations, Training & Security Systems is a key leadership role within Barnard College’s Community Safety & CARES Division. This position is responsible for overseeing all investigative and threat assessment activities, managing the College’s physical security systems, coordinating department-wide training programs, and ensuring institutional compliance with the Clery Act. The Associate Director develops and maintains the College’s strategic approach to safety systems and serves as Chair of the Threat Assessment & Management Team, supporting a safe, responsive, and informed campus environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Public Safety, Information Technology, or a related field required.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in investigations, safety systems, or higher education compliance roles.
  • Demonstrated experience with Clery Act compliance, threat assessment teams, and staff training program development.
  • Familiarity with Lenel, Convergint, or equivalent systems required.

Nice To Haves

  • Clery Compliance Officer certification and/or CPP, PSP, or other relevant certifications strongly preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, law enforcement, or regulated nonprofit environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate investigations involving threats, policy violations, safety concerns, or other matters referred to the CARES Department.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted in a timely, professional, and legally compliant manner.
  • Prepare comprehensive investigative reports and collaborate with CARES Response, Student Life, Human Resources, Title IX, and General Counsel as needed.
  • Maintain case files, logs, and analytics to identify trends and inform continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the College’s subject matter expert on investigatory practices and protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive training program for all CARES staff, including onboarding, compliance, systems training, investigative protocol, and scenario-based response.
  • This is done through coordinated efforts with other Associate Director and Directors in CARES to ensure all elements of training materials and resources are captured in these programs.
  • Develop and load training program in BCLearn for all members of the CARES team.
  • Ensure CARES staff are trained in trauma-informed practices, FERPA/Title IX/Clery compliance, de-escalation, and campus-specific safety policies.
  • Schedule and deliver annual refreshers, tabletop exercises, and new system rollouts in partnership with other CARES Associate Directors and Directors (ie. Fire/Life Safety, Ops. etc.)
  • Track and document all training participation and outcomes; continuously evaluate and improve training effectiveness.
  • Track and review licensure requirements and ensure all CARES staff maintain licensure and have training requirements completed.
  • Lead the strategic planning and daily oversight of Barnard’s physical security infrastructure, including video surveillance, access control, and alarm systems.
  • Serve as superuser and functional lead of CARES enterprise-level platforms such as Lenel, Guard1, SNAP, Convergint, ensuring system performance, data integrity, and proper access control.
  • Partner with BCIT and Human Resources to ensure appropriate access configurations and real-time synchronization with personnel data.
  • Serve as primary contact for external vendors and contractors; oversee installation, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Develop and enforce system use protocols, training standards, and audit mechanisms.
  • Oversee the College’s Clery Act compliance program in collaboration with the Associate Director, CARES Programs & Response.
  • Assist in preparation and publication of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR) with the Associate Director, CARES Programs & Response, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete data.
  • Maintain and update daily crime and fire logs; coordinate classification and documentation of all Clery-reportable incidents.
  • Draft and disseminate Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications as legally required to alert the community to immediate threats.
  • Serve as liaison to local law enforcement agencies and other reporting partners.
  • Serve as Chair of Barnard’s Threat Assessment & Management team (BTAM), leading multidisciplinary case review and coordinated intervention strategies.
  • Develop and maintain protocols for identifying, evaluating, and responding to behaviors of concern.
  • Provide expert consultation and training to departments across the College on reporting and addressing concerning behavior.
  • Maintain detailed case documentation and reporting mechanisms to ensure accountability and compliance.
  • Supervise assigned personnel supporting investigations, systems oversight, or training delivery.
  • Analyze incident, usage, and response data to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Support emergency preparedness and College-wide response planning alongside Community Safety leadership.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance Barnard’s inclusive, prevention-oriented safety culture
