About The Position

The Associate Director, Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for managing the Department’s daily operations and implements strategies to achieve Client goals under the direction of the HIM Director. This includes directing and managing all staff, workloads, performance of the department and individuals, overseeing projects, managing costs and budget, creating reports for various Client and external needs, creating and maintaining policies and procedures and issue resolution to ensure the Department runs smoothly and objectives and deadlines are met. This position serves as the Department Leader during absences or vacancies of the HIM Director. Duties and Responsibilities Uphold Guidehouse values, conduct self ethically and with best interests of Client and Guidehouse in mind at all times. Ensure current, fluent knowledge of HIM best practices, trends, Client and Guidehouse policy and procedures, federal and state regulations, and directives from regulatory agencies and third-party payers. Cultivate positive working relationships actively with all levels of the Department, Client organization and Guidehouse as a key leader; advise Client from an HIM perspective on any initiatives, issue or activities to ensure the legal medical record is protected, compliant and planned for effectively, and areas of risk are considered. Communicate clearly and effectively; this includes active participation in meetings, managing deadlines, establishment of goals, expectations, and performance standards, knowledge and assessment of issues and recommendations and extends to appropriate audience selection, communication method(s) and style. Plan, direct, organize, and control all activities of the HIM department at the direction of the HIM Director; serve as the Department Leader during Director absences or vacancy. Resolve issues effectively and timely including using appropriate discretion to identify, investigate, collaborate, escalate, address and/or resolve issues for optimal solutions and cost effectiveness. Ensure appropriate staffing through staffing assessments (annually or as volumes change), orientation, training, mentoring, performance management (quality, productivity, annual evaluation, corrective action), employee role fit and work closely with Guidehouse and Client HR to recruit and screen candidates for open positions. Ensure department metrics are met or exceeded consistently; where performance is below expectations, develop, monitor and adjust corrective action plans to meet or exceed expectations. Develop and manage process improvement activities and quality control measures for all areas of HIM. Identify and submit internal and external reports accurately and timely.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience or Associate's Degree and a minimum 12 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education or advanced degree. Relevant experience coming from a healthcare provider, payor, CBO, business office environment or an outsourcing company
  • Active RHIA or RHIT credential.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years’ experience in progressing Health Information Management leadership roles.
  • Fluency and adaptability with various Health Information systems & healthcare applications; EPIC, Allscripts, Meditech and Elkay.
