Genmab is evolving its support for global privacy, data and digital regulatory compliance by the creation of a Global Privacy, Data and Digital Trust Center of Excellence (the “Digital Trust Office”) to ensure the continued strategic and proactive support of our business while simultaneously ensuring our patients, caretakers, HCPs, employees, and all other individuals are at the center of all data processing we do here at Genmab. Our Digital Trust Office is looking for an experienced digital regulatory attorney who shares our passion for driving trust and transparency through the compliant, responsible and ethical use of all data. The Associate Director Global Privacy, Data & Digital Counsel, reports into the Global Data Protection Officer and head of Privacy, Data & Digital Trust team and will serve a critical role within the Digital Trust Office as a digital regulatory SME. This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to help shape and strengthen Genmab’s global governance and legal strategy around data, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation. You will serve as a trusted advisor to business and scientific leaders, ensuring that Genmab’s use of data and emerging technologies aligns with our commitment to innovation with integrity, ethical use of AI, and respect for individual rights. This is a global role supporting cross-functional stakeholders across Research & Development, Commercial, DD&AI, and all other enabling functions at Genmab. This role will be based in either Princeton, New Jersey or Copenhagen, Denmark and will be required to be onsite at least 60% of the time.

Requirements

  • Law degree (JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent) and admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience in privacy, technology, or digital law, ideally with a global remit.
  • Deep understanding of data protection and other digital regulatory frameworks (GDPR, EU AI Act, US state privacy and AI regulations, and other key international laws) and emerging AI regulatory regimes.
  • Ability to translate technical and legal concepts into actionable business guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise on AI, data governance, and digital innovation in a complex, fast-evolving environment.
  • Experience within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare sectors.
  • Familiarity with clinical research, pharmacovigilance, digital health, and/or regulatory data frameworks.
  • Experience in working with global organizations.
  • Must be self-motivated and have a proven ability to motivate others to achieve results that positively impact the assigned business area(s).
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning, project management, and execution skills.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources required for success may not be in the direct control of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on global privacy and data protection matters across jurisdictions (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, APPI, PIPL, etc.), ensuring compliance in Genmab’s scientific, digital, and operational activities.
  • Support the implementation and evolution of Genmab’s Global Privacy Program, including Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Support the development of templates and negotiation playbooks for the Legal, Procurement and other relevant business teams to draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements (DPAs), standard contractual clauses (SCCs), and other privacy-related contractual terms.
  • Provide support for any privacy and data protection contract related escalations.
  • Provide legal input into data governance, cross-border data transfers, and privacy-by-design initiatives within Genmab’s R&D and digital ecosystems.
  • Support investigation and/or management of any privacy or data protection related incidents and, if applicable, support the Global Data Protection Officer and regional Data Protection Officer(s) with any required reporting obligations arising from such incidents.
  • Provide legal and strategic guidance on AI and machine learning applications, including Genmab’s digital research platforms, analytics tools, and AI-enabled discovery programs.
  • Advise on AI regulatory frameworks (EU AI Act, U.S. AI policies, OECD, and emerging standards), ensuring compliance and ethical governance of AI technologies.
  • Support development and operationalization of Genmab’s AI governance framework and related policies for responsible and transparent AI use.
  • Support the development of templates and negotiation playbooks for the Legal, Procurement and other relevant business teams to draft, review, and negotiate data, digital, and AI related contractual terms.
  • Provide support for any data, digital, and AI related contract escalations.
  • Partner with Digital, Data Science, and IT teams on AI procurement, vendor risk management, and technology transactions involving AI tools or data-driven solutions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice on digital transformation initiatives, data analytics, cloud computing, and SaaS agreements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice on adherence and wellness apps, digital health collaborations, connected devices, and software-as-a-medical-device (SaMD) initiatives in collaboration with Genmab Research & Commercial teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Cybersecurity, IT Risk, and Compliance teams to align legal and ethical standards across Genmab’s digital operations.
  • Partner with Programs, Compliance & Risk, and other functional leads to support the development of global policies, procedures, and standards for compliant and responsible data and AI use.
  • Support the development of tools, templates (e.g. Privacy, Data Compliance, and AI contract appendix), and training to push out the Digital Trust Office guidance to Genmab Legal teams to facilitate the provision of day-to-day legal advice and support escalated issues as appropriate.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging laws, regulations, and guidance related to AI, data ethics, and digital technologies, and communicate their impact to business leaders.
  • Design and deliver role-based training and awareness programs to enhance Genmab’s data and AI literacy across Legal and Compliance & Risk teams.
