About The Position

The Associate Director, Environment and Sustainability reports to the Head of Global EHS&S for TAPI. This role supports the deployment of the TAPI EHS&S management system to achieve corporate excellence goals and to ensure strong environmental and sustainability compliance and performance across all TAPI sites. The role is an active member of the company ESG team, contributing with a PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) mindset to advance TAPI’s ESG journey, with a particular focus on CO₂, waste, and water reduction, supported by robust environmental data analysis. In addition, the role works closely with TAPI Customer Service to provide expert guidance on EHS&S-related inquiries from TAPI customers. The Associate Director mentors and collaborates with site EHS&S teams, staff, and plant leadership to embed standard practices into daily operations. This includes assessing and mitigating environmental and sustainability risks through internal and external audits and assessments, developing remediation plans, and building EHS&S capabilities through targeted training and coaching.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in an EHS role within the pharmaceutical, API, or chemical industry operating under strict environmental regulations.
  • Strong site-level experience leading environmental and sustainability programs, particularly in wastewater treatment (WWTP), air emissions, and waste management.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in environmental management and sustainability within API production, pharmaceutical, or chemical operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, EHS, or a related scientific discipline (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of environmental standards and reporting frameworks; familiarity with GRI Standards, ISO 14001, product carbon footprint (PCF) methodologies, ISO 14067, GHG Protocol Product Standard, and ISO 14040/14044 is an advantage.
  • Experience with EHS and sustainability systems such as Enablon, Resource Advisor, and Workiva is preferred.
  • Ability to develop a clear, concise strategic view within a complex regulatory and operational environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proven experience successfully implementing and championing environmental regulatory and sustainability requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a highly matrixed, multicultural organization, including senior and executive stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences.
  • Solid project management capabilities, ideally within large private and/or public organizations.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent implementation of TAPI environmental and sustainability standards globally, strengthening site capability, training, and performance
  • Provide expert environmental and sustainability support to TAPI sites, ensuring compliance and reducing environmental impact
  • Lead and support global sustainability programs, including CO₂, waste, water, emissions reduction, and resource efficiency initiatives
  • Act as a key contributor to regulatory readiness and risk management (e.g. PFAS, CBAM, EUDR, F‑gases, VOCs)
  • Define, track, and report global environmental KPIs, delivering clear insights to senior leadership
  • Support Net Zero and decarbonization efforts, including SBTi target‑setting and governance
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, and external partners to drive sustainable solutions
  • Lead cross‑functional initiatives and task forces to standardize and improve environmental performance
  • Represent TAPI on environmental and EHS&S topics with customers, including reporting, meetings, and webinars
  • Contribute environmental data, insights, and narrative to ESG reporting, disclosures, ratings, and stakeholder requests
  • Act as a key EHS&S focal point for assigned sites or regions, strengthening collaboration and alignment
  • Surface site challenges and opportunities to drive continuous improvement aligned with TAPI’s EHS&S “True North”
