About The Position

The Associate Director, Field Medical and Scientific Affairs is responsible for integrating scientific expertise with brand strategies to implement the company's commercial and emerging product portfolio. This role leads and supports the Field Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to achieve clinical, strategic, and business objectives, while driving key opinion leader strategies and ensuring effective communication and education regarding the company's products.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in medical science (MD, PharmD/RPh, or PhD) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant industry experience, including pharmaceutical field-based experience and prior experience managing MSLs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of oncology clinical and therapeutic issues.
  • Patient care clinical experience in oncology and/or hematology preferred.
  • Solid understanding of drug and life-cycle development of a product.
  • Ability to work effectively with key decision makers within and outside the company.
  • Excellent communication skills, skilled at diplomacy and relationship building.
  • Leadership skills and experience managing a large group.
  • Ability to make timely decisions under pressure and incomplete information.
  • Efficiently manage time and priorities, coordinating regional field goals and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the field-based medical strategy and responsible for the training, deployment, direction, and execution of the Field MSL organization's goals and objectives.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor the Field MSLs to ensure team effectiveness and maintain a culture of trust, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Monitor the Field Team's dissemination of clinical and scientific information regarding the company's pipeline and marketed products.
  • Oversee Key Opinion Leaders engagement opportunities and cultivate scientific relationships in therapeutic areas of interest.
  • Develop a customer-centric strategic regional engagement plan and execute tactical activities to support Medical Affairs goals.
  • Ensure documentation of HCP interactions in the CRM and responses to unsolicited requests.
  • Collect, summarize, and disseminate key insights from the RDs to Medical Affairs and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in identifying and implementing systems supporting department needs and initiatives.
  • Mentor, coach, and evaluate the performance of MSLs to maximize engagement and value of the field-based MSL team.
  • Supervise territory plan development regionally and clinical positioning of designated product lines.
  • Provide clinical resources for programs supporting commercial training, marketing efforts, and professional services.
  • Maintain business and clinical knowledge of designated therapeutic areas, including treatment strategies and competitor developments.
  • Ensure Field team members maintain adequate communications across cross-functional counterparts according to compliance guidelines.
  • Manage team adherence to regulatory and compliance guidelines in scientific dissemination of information.
  • Partner with cross-functional team members to align medical perspectives with commercial strategies.
  • Provide consistent, timely, and accurate performance feedback based on customer interactions and metrics.
  • Actively support regional field teams and promote collaboration across the entire team.
