About The Position

This role will report to the Boulder Site Head and be responsible for developing and leading Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives for the operations at the Boulder, CO site. This role is responsible for building and driving a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. The Associate Director, EHS will act as EHS site lead and will collaborate directly with staff at the Boulder, CO site(s), Global EHS stakeholders, and other locations as needed to collaborate, implement, and uphold company-wide safety and health policies. Responsible for the development and execution of all EH&S programs and initiatives and aligning with Corporate standards. Relationships Reports to Boulder Site Head.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education & industry equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of leadership/supervisory experience in EHS required, preferably in a pharmaceutical/regulated industry
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in EHS required, preferably with roles of increasing responsibility
  • Proven ability to develop and implement a Safety Culture
  • Experience working at a Process Safety Management (PSM) facility or a working knowledge of the requirements
  • Fluent in principles of EHS, including relevant laws and regulations. To Include air, water, waste permitting, and OSHA reporting requirements
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and implement EHS Management Systems (safety, environmental, and health programs)
  • Ability to proactively assess processes and equipment for risks; develop solutions to reduce hazards and environmental impact
  • Familiarity with EH&S Management Systems and applicable ISO and OSHA
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in diverse environments
  • Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records
  • Readiness to respond to emergencies and lead effectively in critical situations
  • Demonstrated competencies in analytical thinking, initiative, teamwork, and attention to detail
  • Ability to apply scientific and chemical principles to technical challenges

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement technical safety initiatives that support operations efficiently and on schedule
  • Design and execution of all safety programs that ensure safe, complaint, and effective operation of our operations
  • Create, implement and govern the Industrial Hygiene (IH) program, including testing, protocol development, and implementation of a risk-based IH strategy
  • Deliver environmental and sustainability programs, manage hazardous waste programs, and required environmental reporting
  • Determine if compliance is required for Process Safety Management (PSM) program
  • Implement Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and other safety programs as required
  • Direct EHS support for site expansion or construction projects, collaborating with project sponsors and support
  • Lead and participate in investigations, drive RCA process for safety issues and see mitigation through completion
  • Support the development and implementation of the site’s Chemical Management System
  • Serve as a leading member of the site’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), responding to emergencies within your level of training, including CPR, First Aid, AED use, and chemical spill response with SCBA
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support EH&S and site objectives
  • Partner with CMC EH&S teams to implement global initiatives and align site practices with corporate standards and governance
  • Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
  • Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.
  • Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
