About The Position

This position reports into the Executive Director of Medical Communications and is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the Publications and Independent Medical Education (IME) functions and teams, ensuring relevant department responsibilities are met in a manner consistent with corporate directives and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • PhD or PharmD and 10+ years of Medical Affairs experience with the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience in a medical affairs role (MSL, Med Pubs and/or Med Comm).
  • Experience in neuroscience disorders is highly preferred.
  • OR MD and 5+ years of similar experience noted above.
  • Extensive previous managerial experiences also required.
  • Strong written communication skills including publication/medical writing.
  • Expert knowledge of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations, publication practices, regulatory guidelines and healthcare compliance trends related to publications, medical inquiries and scientific exchange.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize data, think critically, manage projects, influence others, work in a team environment, and synthesize complex clinical and non-clinical statistical and medical information to effectively communicate medical and scientific information.
  • Knowledge in neuroscience disorders.
  • Recognized as an internal thought leader with extensive technical and business expertise within a strategic organization.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of own function, business / commercial / scientific expertise to solve critical issues successfully and innovatively.
  • Evaluates key business / scientific challenges and completes complex, ambiguous initiatives having cross-functional impact.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to build successful relationships with Opinion Leaders, internal experts/teams and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation and computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Manages the development and implementation of strategic and cross-functional publication, scientific communications, and Independent Medical Education (IME) plans across all Neurocrine's clinical programs and therapeutic areas.
  • Works with external authors and internal stakeholders to develop scientifically rigorous manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, abstracts for identified scientific congresses, and content that will be used for scientific exchange with members of the healthcare community.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and other scientific and medical experts to develop publications that are accurate, scientifically balanced and aligned with the medical strategy and cross-functional plans.
  • Manages vendors and consultants that may be utilized to support medical writing work.
  • Leads department and/or project teams, personnel/direct reports, and related initiatives as appropriate.
  • Ensures all publications are in compliance with company standards and that all internal stakeholders are adequately involved in the approval process.
  • Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
