Organization Overview: The Engineering Tech Center is part of the overall Corporate Engineering team for Lilly. This team is responsible for subject matter expertise with several aspects of engineering disciplines along with program ownership for key programs across the corporation. Position Overview: The Associate Director – Corporate Mechanical Disciplines position has overall responsibility for supervision, safety, performance, and development of direct-reporting employees. The team typically consists of multiple Lilly engineers plus additional external contingent workers when needed. This role will manage and monitor business results, compliance, productivity improvement, and overall customer service for the team, while streamlining processes, prioritizing work, and supporting the overall corporate design, delivery, and equipment strategies. The Associate Director role will provide mechanical engineering discipline leadership in technology development, knowledge sharing, mentoring of junior talent, as well as provide technical leadership to sites, support major project delivery, support key initiatives led by the tech center, and network with external benchmarking communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science field
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in engineering or related functional area
  • Demonstrated leadership in an engineering field

Responsibilities

  • Lead HR processes, including performance management, compensation management, reward and recognition, talent assessment, promotion, recruiting, and succession planning for a team of approximately 10-12 individuals. Coach and develop team members. Support and lead diversity and inclusion efforts for the team.
  • Support Engineering Tech Center team strategy, business planning, and team building activities.
  • Mechanical Engineering Discipline and Technical Leadership – Own and manage engineering standards, master specifications, and engineering best practices that relate to the mechanical engineering disciplines at Lilly. The focus for those is within the HVAC and Utilities aspects of this discipline. In addition, lead the Pressure Vessel program including strategy, technical aspects, and detailed execution of program across the company.
  • Knowledge Sharing – Provide technical coaching and mentoring to Lilly engineers. Document learning through peer-reviewed technical documents. Facilitate shared learning forums such as conferences and user groups.
  • Project Delivery Leadership – Support capital project delivery through resourcing of key subject matter experts. Monitor and act on key performance metrics for team performance on project delivery goals.
  • External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence external industry trends for equipment, system and even digital technologies and solutions.
