About The Position

The Center for Career Design seeks a high energy, student-centered professional who is excited to empower students to be active in their career design, adaptive to future work, and skilled in teaching them how to build relationships, become lifelong learners, take ownership of their career path, and to seek out the tools and resources they need when they need them. The Associate Director will work with the Director to lead and manage a comprehensive, modern, and innovative Career Center focused on creating a campus wide career ecosystem incorporating development milestones from freshmen year through alumni. They will play a key role in multiplying and scaling career development to ensure the career readiness and employability of all students. The Associate Director will collaborate with the campus community to develop meaningful opportunities for students to be engaged with the Center and work to increase the number of students who participate in experiential learning opportunities. They will design programs and learning opportunities to help students create lives for themselves that are fulfilling and meaningful. This position is responsible for collaborating and supporting the CSU colleges to which they are assigned on all career related initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three+ years minimum of professional work experience in one of the following capacities: career counseling, advising, higher education, recruitment, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively using professional judgement and proven customer service methods to assist and serve stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of applying resourcefulness and innovation in solving problems and finding lasting solutions.
  • Commitment to high standards of excellence in producing content worthy of and consistent with the expectations of university audiences. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others through delegation and goal setting along with the ability to maximize their strengths while minimizing weaknesses. International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certification (Associate Certified Coach, Professional Certified Coach, or Master Certified Coach required) or willingness and ability to complete the certification process within 2 years of start date.
  • 4-Year commitment is required if CSU assists in funding ICF credentialing. If there is a separation before the 4-year commitment is complete, reimbursement of costs of certification will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in curriculum design and learning outcome assessment along with experience in evidence-based decision making.
  • Ability to learn, use, manage, and apply various technologies at an expert level in driving student engagement and maximizing the Career Center's productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the work of two-three full-time Career Success Coaches and student workers.
  • Provide career coaching for students as well as alumni in areas related to career exploration and transition, networking, job search, and skills development and articulation.
  • Establish Career Communities based on the academic focus areas to which they are assigned.
  • Coordinate internships, externships, apprenticeships and other work-based learning activities.
  • Develop a comprehensive set of classroom presentations and lessons focused on identifying and exploring career options, developing mutually supportive relationships, applying effective job search skills, and recognizing and conveying one's professional value.
  • Assist the Director in relationship development with employers who are looking for students with degrees from the colleges they are assigned to support.
  • Assist employers with creating Handshake accounts and posting open positions as well as making students aware of open positions in their field(s).
  • Provide administration and education on technology available to students through the Center for Career Design; assist the Director in managing the Center's technology portfolio.
  • Design and implement career-focused programming to achieve maximum impact as it relates to student engagement.
  • Collect and report various career data points with an emphasis on measuring impact rather than input
  • Develop, design, and coordinate the execution of career fairs and treks and other activities that support the students in identifying career paths.
  • Oversee and manage the Cougar Career Connections alumni mentoring program.
  • Direct all activities related to the internship registration process and providing funding for unpaid internships.
