The following position is to join our RTX Corporate Benefits Finance team: RTX Corporate is looking for a dynamic Associate Director, Benefits Accounting. In this role you be reporting to the Executive Director, Benefits Finance. As the Associate Director, Benefits Accounting you will play a critical role in the Benefits Finance department within the RTX Controllership organization. This position will be based in Farmington, CT working as a hybrid in-person/remote team. The Benefits Finance department oversees the financial accounting, reporting, funding, and forecasting aspects of the Company's benefits offerings, including active and post-retirement medical, dental, life insurance, disability, and pension benefit programs. The department partners with a wide variety of internal partners across Finance, Human Resources and Legal at Corporate and the business units globally.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the financial management system due to government contractual requirements.
  • Proficiency in GAAP, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to multi-task and manage critical projects independently under demanding schedules.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting certification, and/or experience with accounting concepts.
  • People management experience.
  • Ability to help identify and execute process improvements.
  • Proficiency with tools such as SAP, Hyperion, Power Query, Power BI and Alteryx.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the preparation of the Company's and the benefit plans' financial statement disclosures, annual filings, and submissions to the US government.
  • Overseeing the preparation and review of benefits related accounting entries in compliance with GAAP and CAS.
  • Ensuring appropriate design and execution of accounting and financial controls with respect to benefits areas.
  • Leading audit support activities, including preparing responses to auditor questions, facilitating calls, and addressing open items on a timely basis.
  • Facilitating proper payments from benefit plans and coordinating with vendors including the outside benefits administrators, providers, consultants and financial institutions.
  • Supporting aspects of the preparation, review and communication of financial forecasts and analysis of Company benefit costs related to fringe benefit programs.
  • Leading ad hoc special projects, as needed, including but not limited to process improvement initiatives, restructuring, and mergers/acquisitions due diligence.
  • Taking a primary role in the workflow management and development of junior team members including formal supervisor responsibilities for at least one team member.
