About The Position

The Associate Director, Behavioral Health and Wellness provides direct patient care while serving in a key leadership capacity to support departmental operations. Approximately 80 percent of this role is devoted to direct clinical practice, including psychotherapy, assessment, treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions. The remaining 20 percent includes administrative and supervisory responsibilities in support of site-specific behavioral health leadership This position functions as the second-in-command for the department and will step in for site-specific behavioral health leadership as needed to ensure seamless operations. The Associate Director supports the health center, with some travel being required to meet departmental and organizational needs. The Associate Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health services that align with professional standards and organizational values. This position serves patients and clients and reports directly to site-specific behavioral health leadership

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or related field.
  • 3+ years of clinical experience providing behavioral health services.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience working in community mental health settings with strong knowledge of community-based resources.
  • Will hold a current, unrestricted license in the state of the health center as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT.
  • Experience in case management and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Skilled in brief, solution-focused therapies including CBT, DBT, and substance use treatment modalities.
  • Ability to meet patients where they are and provide appropriate, time-limited interventions when needed.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and equitable service delivery.
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends, as needed.
  • Annual influenza vaccination and TB testing as conditions of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or program coordination experience preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals living with HIV or underserved populations preferred.
  • HIV experience in a not-for-profit environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct behavioral health services, including individual, couple, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Conduct intake assessments, diagnostic evaluations, treatment planning, and discharge processes with follow-up care.
  • Provide psychoeducational and supportive interventions utilizing trauma-informed, evidence-based, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Provide crisis intervention and on-call support, including specialized response to suicide risk and relationship and sexual violence (RSV).
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Serve as second-in-command for the department, stepping in to act on behalf of site-specific behavioral health leadership when needed.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to assigned staff, ensuring high standards of practice and professional development.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and mentorship of clinical staff, students, and interns.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to monitoring productivity, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes, offering recommendations for improvement.
  • Represent the Behavioral Health and Wellness program internally and externally to foster collaboration and expand community partnerships.
  • Support statewide operations if applicable, including some travel to other health centers as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by site-specific behavioral health leadership.
  • Adhere to all agency policies, including Confidentiality, Employee Handbook, Health Care Corporate Compliance Plan, Standards of Conduct, and other relevant policies.
