About The Position

The Wharton School's 20+ research centers and initiatives serve as a hub for exchange and study where faculty, students, and members of the business community address pressing global business challenges. Their work generates courses, academic programs, community outreach, working papers, published research, and partnerships among academics, industry, and government. The Associate Director of Academic Programming is responsible for proactively engaging faculty and students in the mission and activities of Wharton’s finance research centers, which support and disseminate cutting-edge work in areas including investment management, private equity, hedge funds, venture capital, quantitative finance, fintech, policy, and regulation. This position works closely with faculty leaders and staff to manage the development and implementation of research initiatives, including paper series, paper prizes, project funding, and student fellowship programs. The Associate Director oversees the administration of internal research funding, managing the evaluation and awards process. It is also responsible for student engagement for Wharton’s finance research centers, including overseeing events for student audiences, cultivating relationships with student clubs, managing the ongoing implementation of student programs, and leading the development of new student-facing initiatives. This position reports to the Managing Director of Finance Research Centers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required and 3-5 years of experience in program and project management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and a willingness to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships with faculty, university staff, and students.
  • The ability to manage multiple responsibilities and exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to learn institutional systems.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage the administration of faculty and student research support for finance research centers and initiatives.
  • Direct schedules and timelines for the ongoing implementation of these activities and provide organizational support to center faculty directors.
  • Oversee student programs, events, fellowships, and co-curricular activities for Wharton’s finance research centers.
  • Engage and build relationships with student groups and clubs.
  • Identify strategic partnership opportunities for the finance research centers to be involved in student programs, projects, events, and other activities.
  • Supervise the administration of internal research funding, evaluating proposals for relevancy, coordinating the review process with center faculty directors and distributing funding to faculty.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Wharton faculty and key administrative colleagues, connecting researchers to support opportunities through the finance centers as well as the larger Wharton and Penn ecosystem.
  • Collaborate on internal marketing to promote calls for papers and research proposals, prizes, fellowships, and other opportunities to faculty and students.
  • Identify appropriate audiences and methods of outreach, and build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and academic departments.
