About The Position

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) is seeking an Associate to join its Direct Lending team, a critical component of the leveraged finance platform within the Global Fixed Income Credit business. This role is designed for an individual who will take significant ownership of the entire private credit investment process, which includes sourcing, underwriting, and ongoing monitoring of private loans. The Associate will be expected to contribute to investing in private debt financings across various capital structures, with a focus on unitranche, first lien, and second lien loans. The Associate will assist in managing the investment process from inception to completion, collaborating closely with Team Leaders and Credit Research to conduct thorough company and industry research, develop investment recommendations, and manage loan positions after the initial investment is made. This includes preparing investment committee memorandums that feature financial projections and supporting Team Leaders during presentations to internal investment committees. In addition, the Associate will play a key role in evaluating, structuring, and negotiating economic and legal terms at both the term sheet stage and during final documentation. Monitoring the performance of existing investments and maintaining relationships with key investment participants, such as Borrowers, Sponsors, and Agents, will also be essential. The role requires providing detailed updates during scheduled portfolio reviews and on an ad-hoc basis as necessary. Collaboration with other LMI teams, including Legal, Finance, Accounting, and Risk Management, is crucial for executing transactions and managing the portfolio effectively. The Associate will also engage with external market participants, including other direct lenders, buyside investors, bankers, advisers, and third-party consultants, as part of the investment process. Furthermore, the Associate will support relationship coverage with private equity firms across various market segments to help achieve the team's origination targets. An important aspect of this role is to actively participate in the training, development, and coaching of Analysts within the team.
