A day in the life of the Associate Designer for Timberland looks a little like this. Reporting to the Senior Designer, Women’s Footwear, you will be an integral member of the footwear development team in creating innovative and unique product that meets the needs of the Timberland consumer and embodies Brand Purpose and Creative Vision. You will be responsible for applying seasonal creative direction, new concept ideation, upper pattern design, materializations, technical packages, color rotations and meeting key calendar deadlines. And you will gain an in-depth immersion into Timberland footwear and apparel products, key technologies, and sales support programs. Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more. What you will do: Design and create footwear concepts on existing collections through pattern, color and material application. Create two and three-dimensional sketches illustrating new, unique product ideas and concepts, which meet the expectations, delineated in the product brief. Research - Work within the parameters of the product briefs to support the category goals and objectives. Continually expand knowledge of distribution channel and market trends to insure concept feasibility. Research extends to application and use of traditional and new materials, compounds and constructions when applicable. Technical Package Development - In conjunction with a product developer, prepares the approved design into a package of two and/or three-dimensional information which adequately describes and utilizes current and feasible manufacturing and assembly techniques. This package would also take into consideration performance, fit and costing objectives. Maintain and provide a clear form of documentation and communication with team members in order ease the transfer of the design solutions from concept through commercialization. Present project concepts, trends and inspirational stories in internal reviews. Utilize Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) to visualize and present accurate artwork and photo realistic concepts. Provide and communicate detailed tech information for each project solution. Collaborate with Design, Product Management, and Footwear Development teams to execute project direction, product process, cost targets and deliverables. How you will do it: Conceptualize and design footwear for Timberland precisely translating the product brief or direction into designs that meet highly functional, costing, and aesthetic objectives. Initiate and provide focused, feasible, functional, commercial, and innovative footwear concepts that are appropriate and applicable for the Timberland brand.
