About The Position

This individual contributor role in the Lighting and Transportation division processes drafting requests for production and customer drawings following Valmont standards. Responsibilities include interpreting customer order information, preparing drawings and data for internal teams and manufacturing, and resolving order or manufacturing issues with guidance from the Engineering Manager. The role supports quality and lead-time objectives, ensures accurate order information, and may suggest improvements to product designs, drafting procedures, and systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 2+ years of drafting experience
  • Technical skills in CAD and basic math (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry), typically through an Associate of Applied Science degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoDesk Inventor, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and PC applications
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, resolve information gaps with Engineering support, and produce accurate, high-quality work under deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving, math, attention to detail, and communication skills with a positive, professional attitude

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Drafting
  • Autodesk Inventor 2013 or newer version
  • Past experience in structural drafting

Responsibilities

  • Interpret order information to accurately and efficiently complete drawings
  • Monitor and update drafting schedules to meet departmental productivity, accuracy, and 'Promises Kept' goals
  • Maintain professional communication across departments and accurate customer requirement records
  • Stay current on drafting policies, manufacturing capabilities, and professional certifications
  • Provide technical/drafting support for projects, handle special assignments, and suggest process improvements
  • Create tapering profiles and 3D models for CNC programming using established software tools
