About The Position

Odessa College, a leading community college in the country, has an opening for full-time, in-person Associate Degree Nursing Program Instructor in the Associate Degree Nursing Program.

Requirements

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in nursing OR a masters degree in another field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with 6 hours of graduate level nursing courses from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of courses of the Associate Degree Nursing program.
  • Adhere to the requirements, standards and guidelines set forth by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas; National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field by reading current literature, participating in continuing education and professional development, and attending conferences.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college.
  • Utilize appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Provide students with written expectations that are congruent with the Odessa College and Associate Degree nursing vision and policies.
  • Develop and administer tests which are appropriate to course content, current to best practices in nursing, and appropriate in rigor.
  • Evaluate and grade student class, laboratory and clinical work, assignments and papers in a timely manner.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise students in all laboratory and clinical experiences.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades and other required course specific details.
  • Maintain an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom.
  • Prepare adequately for class and arrive promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities.
  • Deliver material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Address student concerns in a timely manner.
  • Effectively handle routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the department.
  • Submit required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the department chair.
  • Maintain effective relationships and collaborate with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community.
  • Maintain individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications.
  • Plan, evaluate and revise the curriculum, course content, course materials and methods of instruction.
  • Assist with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs.
  • Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on current issues.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise, mentor and assist students.
  • Actively participate in college functions and events, and engage in community service.
