About The Position

The College of Social & Behavioral Sciences (CSBS) at California State University, San Bernardino is conducting an internal recruitment for the College’s Associate Dean, Academic Personnel and Resources. The Associate Dean is a key member of the College’s senior leadership team who is expected to know the work of the College well and ensure that the College upholds its mission and values. Responsibilities: Partner closely with the Dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences to ensure effective, efficient, and compliant college operations. Work with leadership to advance initiatives aligned with the mission, values, and strategic goals of the College and University. Assist the Dean in ensuring College compliance with Federal, State, CSU, and University policies and regulations. Support the Dean in fostering and sustaining a professional, positive, collegial, and collaborative culture across all departments and units. Work with College and department leadership to produce reports, data analysis, and strategic recommendations that support College operations and student success. Generate and submit monthly College updates and quarterly Academic Affairs reports. Provide leadership and oversight for Faculty Affairs, facilities planning and management, and other College and University relations. Manage and allocate college space and serve on the Academic Affairs Space Committee. Collaborate with College leadership to support accreditation requirements, including documentation, reporting, and implementation of improvement initiatives. Assist in the review and oversight of College Centers and Institutes. Coordinate and support College leadership meetings and governance-related gatherings. Plan and oversee College-wide professional development activities and ceremonial events, including but not limited to: SBS Leadership Retreat, College Faculty and Staff Meetings, SBS Awards Ceremony, etc. Attend Academic Senate meetings and represent College interests as appropriate. Serve on University committees as a representative of the College, and act on behalf of the Dean in their absence when designated. Perform other duties as assigned in support of College and University priorities. Serve as HEERA manager for the Dean’s Office operational staff and all department staff including completing annual performance evaluations of permanent staff as well as more frequent evaluations of probationary staff Ensure that the faculty and staff training mandates (e.g., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IX, and CANRA) are met. Oversee staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, supervision, evaluation, and ongoing development. Provide leadership and oversight for Faculty Affairs processes and activities. Assist the Dean with department chair and director reviews, evaluations, and recruitment processes. Assist with confidential faculty matters in consultation with the Dean and appropriate University offices. Assist with confidential student issues in coordination with the Dean and appropriate campus offices. Coordinate College-level student scholarships and awards. Serve as liaison between the College, Financial Aid, and University Advancement related to scholarships and donor-funded awards. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD - Earned terminal degree in a discipline that is offered by or could be hired for an academic position by the college
  • PhD - Academic record that supports appointment to a senior tenured position in a department in the college, per the department's criteria document
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships.
  • Experience with development and assessment of academic programs at the baccalaureate or master's level
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of faculty and faculty governance
  • Experience with curriculum approval process
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and different working styles, different communication styles, and different levels of organizational abilities
  • Ability to work in changing and demanding contexts
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplinary lines and lead projects that are outside their own disciplines
  • Experience leading teams/units and supervising staff
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate very effectively in a wide range of contexts
  • Strong conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and problem solve despite familiar relationships
