Position Summary The Associate Dean of Education provides academic and operational leadership for MCNY’s educator preparation programs within the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services & Education. This full-time faculty–administrator role supports program quality, accreditation, assessment, and faculty development while ensuring compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations. The Associate Dean also serves as the College’s Teacher Certification Officer, overseeing all certification processes and maintaining regulatory alignment. This position is on-site and requires consistent engagement with faculty, students, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Education or a closely related field (Ph.D. or Ed.D.).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education or teacher preparation.
  • Demonstrated expertise with NYSED teacher certification requirements.
  • Experience with accreditation and assessment (AAQEP preferred).
  • Strong record of teaching, service, and/or scholarship.
  • Ability to work effectively in an urban, diverse, mission-driven institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with adult learners and nontraditional student populations.
  • Experience managing teacher education clinical partnerships.
  • Familiarity with Purpose-Centered Education or similar mission-driven curricular models.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day academic oversight for all education programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure programs meet NYSED, AAQEP, and institutional standards.
  • Verify certification eligibility for all teacher candidates and alumni.
  • Maintain accurate certification records and ensure timely TEACH reporting.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to NYSED on all certification matters.
  • Communicate regulatory updates and certification pathways to students and faculty.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and evaluating faculty.
  • Promote high-quality, evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Support faculty scholarship, innovation, and engagement with communities of practice.
  • Oversee fieldwork, practicum, and student-teaching placements.
  • Strengthen partnerships with PK–12 schools and community agencies.
  • Address student advising needs, academic concerns, and program-related issues.
  • Coordinate accreditation reviews, data collection, and program documentation.
  • Lead assessment planning, reporting, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure alignment with NYSED, AAQEP, MSCHE, and institutional policies.
  • Represent MCNY at meetings, committees, and professional organizations.
  • Build partnerships that expand clinical placements, pipelines, and community impact.
  • Contribute to School and College-level strategic planning and innovation.
  • Support course scheduling, adjunct assignments, and workload planning.
  • Assist with budget planning and resource allocation.
  • Serve on college-wide committees and cross-unit working groups.
