About The Position

The Associate Dean, Nursing provides leadership and works with the School Dean and the academic administrators of the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to manage each program and the Nursing Unit as a whole according to Stevenson University and Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions policies and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assessing nursing program quality and effectiveness, maintaining nursing program accreditations and coordinating all reporting related to accreditation, serving on external committees and boards related to nursing, facilitating partnerships with clinical agencies and other organizations to support the mission and functions of the Nursing Unit, monitoring program budgets, and collaborating with nursing academic program administrators to hire, train, and mentor faculty and staff. The Associate Dean, Nursing has a faculty appointment in nursing and may teach up to a maximum of 6 contact hours per year in their areas of specialty. This 12-month staff position serves as the Chief Nurse Administrator with responsibility for maintaining accreditation of all nursing programs and as such plays key roles in supporting the teaching, scholarship and service activities of the faculty in the Nursing Unit in alignment with School and University requirements.

Requirements

Ph.D. or other equivalent doctoral degree in nursing or a related science with 7 years of college level teaching experience and 3 years of experience as an academic administrator plus postdoctoral experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must hold an unencumbered license as registered nurse (RN) by the Maryland Board of Nursing, or licensure with multi-state practice privilege in another state, or be eligible for licensure in the state of Maryland.

Commitment to quality teaching, scholarly activity and professional development
Current licensure as a registered nurse
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Ability to travel between campuses and to off-campus sites as needed

Responsibilities

Serve as the Chief Nurse Administrator for Stevenson University.
Serve as chair of the Nursing Unit Leadership Team.
Serve as a member of the Nursing Executive Team.
Serve as a member of the School of Nursing and Health Professions Leadership Team.
Serve as a point of contact for students, faculty, staff and others regarding questions, complaints and issues pertaining to the nursing programs.
Coordinate assessment of all nursing programs by facilitating the work of the Nursing Unit Work Groups and supporting program academic administrators in program-level university-based assessment activities.
Serve as a representative of Stevenson University on nursing- or healthcare-related external boards and committees as requested and appropriate.
Lead the preparation and submission of all required reporting to the Maryland Board of Nursing, AACN, CCNE, and other external agencies.
Maintain program accreditation by CCNE, including ensuring the collection and maintenance of all required data and information such as meeting minutes, annual enrollment data, faculty/staff data, and other data as appropriate.
Maintain a Nursing Advisory Board comprised of representatives of external and internal partners and stakeholders and hold at least one annual meeting, including developing and distributing invitations and agendas, and recording and distributing meeting minutes.
Develop and monitor nursing program budgets in consultation with the relevant program academic administrator and the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions, as appropriate.
Work with the program academic administrators to facilitate the mentoring and evaluation of nursing faculty and staff according to established University guidelines and timetables.
Participate in recruitment initiatives, including, but not limited to, participating in University open houses and receptions for accepted students, contacting campus visitors and open house attendees, announcing department news and student activities and achievements via social media or other outlets, updating and revising brochure information and talking with prospective students and parents.
Hold regular Nursing Unit meetings; develop and maintain a procedure for minutes to be taken at these meetings and stored appropriately for future review in accordance with accreditation requirements.
Attend and participate in all School of Nursing and Health Professions meetings and weekly leadership team meetings.
Attend and participate in program meetings for all nursing programs at least monthly and as requested.
Collaborate with the nursing academic program administrators to facilitate the implementation and assessment of competency-based education across all programs.
Teach up to a maximum of 6 contact hours per fiscal year in area of specialization as needed in any nursing program.
Manage and support the instructional activity of faculty in all nursing programs.
Collaborate with the program academic administrators to ensure that nursing faculty:
Prepare courses, laboratories, and/or clinicals in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines,
Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner,
Hold office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week),
Meet with students as related to instructional activity.
Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
Participate in the assessment activities of the Programs, School, and University.
Maintain Blackboard LMS in accordance with university policies.
Develop and maintain independent intellectual pursuits, including research, that enhance professional effectiveness.
Attend professional development workshops, meetings, and talks related to professional interests, including those of professional societies.
Pursue internal and external funding sources to support activities, programs, and projects aligned with the goals and objectives of all nursing programs and the Nursing Unit as a whole, School of Nursing and Health Professions, and Stevenson University.
Attend all Faculty/Staff University, School, and Nursing Unit meetings.
Attend all convocations, including commencement exercises.
Serve on one Nursing Unit working group.
Attend Nursing pinning ceremonies.
Serve on Program, Nursing Unit, School, and University committees.
Participate in Program, Nursing Unit, School, and University events.
