About The Position

The Associate Dean position refers to a registered nurse who, as a member of the nursing faculty, is responsible for broad implementation of the Prelicensure BSN Degree Program, including curriculum, policies, student advising, and evaluation, as well as mentoring and collaborating with nurse educator associates, clinical teaching associates, and clinical rotation learning sites. This is a ranked full-time faculty position of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on position. Essential Functions: The Associate Dean will hold the core competencies described within the scope of practice of an academic nurse educator (National League for Nursing, 2012): Competency I: Facilitate Learning The Associate Dean is responsible for creating an environment in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings that facilitates student learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes. Competency II: Facilitate Learner Development and Socialization The Associate Dean recognizes his or her responsibility for helping students develop as nurses and integrate the values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill that role. The Associate Dean serves as the advisor for students in the Nursing Major that require individualized adjustment of their curriculum track due to previous failures or other extenuating circumstances. The Associate Dean will work with the professional advisor to oversee all Nursing Major students that are on the standard curriculum track for the 2-year upper division program. Competency III: Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies The Associate Dean uses a variety of assessment and evaluation strategies to measure student learning outcomes across classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, ensuring alignment with the AACN 2021 Essentials and QSEN competencies. Competency IV: Participate in Curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program Outcomes The Associate Dean participates in the development of program outcomes and the design of nursing curricula that integrate the AACN 2021 Essentials and QSEN competencies, ensuring alignment with current healthcare trends and preparing prelicensure BSN graduates to deliver safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care in diverse healthcare settings. Competency V: Function as a Change Agent and Leader The Associate Dean functions as a change agent and leader to help advance nursing education and practice to meet evolving healthcare needs. Responsibilities include assisting with efforts to secure and maintain CCNE accreditation and ensuring compliance with standards set by the OSBN, the Council of Higher Education, and other regulatory bodies. The Associate Dean supports integration of the AACN 2021 Essentials curriculum and QSEN competencies into academic programs to promote excellence and innovation in nursing education. Competency VI: Pursue Continuous Quality Improvements in the Associate Dean Role The Associate Dean recognizes that his or her role is multidimensional, and that an ongoing commitment to develop and maintain competence in the role is essential. Competency VII: Engage in Scholarship The Associate Dean recognizes scholarship as a core component of the faculty role, affirming that teaching is itself a scholarly pursuit. The Associate Dean actively engages in and promotes collaborative scholarship through supporting research, evidence-based practice, and innovation, both within and outside the institution. Competency VIII: Function within the Educational Environment The Associate Dean is knowledgeable about the educational environment within which he or she practices and recognizes how political, institutional, social, and economic forces affect his or her role. WPU’s Department of Nursing received initial approval on November 15, 2018, from the Oregon State Board of Nursing to launch a traditional, Prelicensure BSN Degree Program. To promote the program’s effectiveness and sustainability, the Associate Dean will participate in the following activities drawn from Competencies I through VIII: Collaborate with the Dean of Nursing to develop policies and procedures that facilitate judicious growth of the Prelicensure BSN Degree Program. Currently, N=121 in four cohorts. Teach one course within area of expertise and pursue ongoing development to support instruction in additional nursing subjects. Collaborate with full-time faculty and the Dean of Nursing on the Nursing Cirrcicuulm Committee on a regular basis for continued alignment with QSEN competencies, AACN standards, and OSBN regulations. Collaborate with the Program Manager to create community connections to continue to foster and develop new and ongoing clinical experiences for the Prelicensure BSN Degree Program. Collaborate with the Dean of Nursing to contribute to the development and revision of departmental handbooks for prelicensure BSN students, nursing faculty, and the broader student body. Develop and refine courses as outlined in the Prelicensure BSN Curriculum Plan. Participate in accreditation activities required by the CCNE and the OSBN, ensuring integration of QSEN competencies, AACN 2021standards, and Board of Nursing regulations. Oversees the professional performance of the Simulation Coordinator to ensure effective management of simulation resources and support for nursing education. Manages escalated concerns from students or instructors in clinical and classroom environments, notifying the Dean of the School of Nursing, and Warner Pacific University administration as needed. Provide academic advising and support to students within the prelicensure BSN Nursing program. Foster and support collaborative relationships with external stakeholders and clinical partners meeting with Advisory Partnership Committee and Community Clinical Partners on a semi-annual basis for program development. In addition, the Associate Dean will integrate within the University through the following expectations: Uphold the expectation of a 24 credit load: 12 teaching credits and 12 administrative credits per academic year. Work collegially with administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Understand and promote the mission, vision, values, and core themes of Warner Pacific University. Exhibit excellent communication skills in all interactions with administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Requirements

  • Graduate degree in nursing (MS or MSN) required.
  • Five years of experience in nursing higher education required.
  • Clinical and/or Didactic Maintenance of unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon. Exception on an individual basis with approval of the Dean of Nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or DNP Degree in Nursing is preferred for leadership roles of the Associate Dean.
  • Depth and breadth of professional experience in the field, to include approval and accreditation processes of a Prelicensure BSN Degree Program, independent oversight of skills and simulation laboratories, and in-depth knowledge of healthcare delivery.
  • College teaching experience in a nursing curriculum.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
